We had the good fortune of connecting with TRISTAN COX and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TRISTAN, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was nervous and didn’t have anyone in my family to own a business. This opportunity provided me a different way of thinking by realizing that I’m making history and creating a legacy for my future siblings and whomever I inspire.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My designs are based on empowering others by displaying different colors and embracing the African American culture and displaying the positive side of my culture. My signature piece is a gas mask which represents the protection of the words we speak and how the mask shields our words from being distorted or corrupted by negative people.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the historical sites and then I would take them to various black owned restaurants. I would end the trip by taking them to the botanical gardens.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can’t take credit for everything but I was inspired by my grandfather’s Man Edward Leamon and Larry Thomas. They taught me about being a dreamer and how to ignore the haters. My Daddy James Leamon taught me how to dress and how to match colors and how to present myself in a positive manner. My new mentor Mr. Miguel Wilson he has his own store and I was inspired by his bio he worked a regular job to help push his dream of being a designer. I actually met him and being in his store I learned so much just by observing how he catered to each of his customers.
