We had the good fortune of connecting with Trinitee Bissainthe Girl Get Dressed Foundation and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trinitee Bissainthe, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In all honesty, I won’t even sit here and say that this is something that I also saw myself doing. Yes I have a love for clothing and a major passion for giving back to my community but this idea really just came from me finding my old High school prom dress after visiting home. I told a very close friend of mine that I found it and that I was thinking of donating it to a high school student and was going to see if my friends wanted to take care of her entire glam because I understand how expensive prom can be. Immediately after I told my friends, they were completely supportive and invested. Everyone around me played a significant role in bringing this all together; my friends are so talented and I thank God for them everyday! I am also blessed to attend a university, Clark Atlanta University, where the support and encouragement is unmatched. What started as an idea with just blessing one girl for prom turned into many dress donations, volunteer services from makeup and hair stylists, and an organization dedicated to supporting girls.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Girl Get Dressed Foundation is a non-profit aimed to supporting girls in our community by taking some of the burdens off their shoulders. The name honestly came from a scenario in my life where I was not in the the right head place and was just mentally drained. I was literally contemplating on going to work and I had to give myself a pep talk before I got there. I kept telling myself “girl you are not stressed; get up and get dressed”, and the name “Girl, Get Dressed” instantly stuck with me. For me, I also realized that anytime I feel myself feeling down or just not motivated to do anything, one thing that always helps me is getting dressed and being dolled up, even if I’m just going to the store. My objective is to utilize this organization, to not only support these young ladies, but also shed some light on the importance of maintaining their mental health. Yes, our goal is to also release these girls of their hardships but this means in every form including financial and mental. Many of the young ladies I was blessed to be in contact with, expressed the difficult things they were going through and have been going through, throughout the school year. I thought it was only right that my friends and I picked up the torch, and made sure these ladies got the chance to go to prom because they deserved it. We understand that prom can be very expensive at times therefore our goal is to make sure these deserving young ladies get to experience a memorable night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to use this opportunity to personally thank all the ladies who made this year’s prom sponsorship possible. To the glam squad, Cat, Quin, Angel, Kay, and A’Blessyn, thank you ladies for your love and professionalism. Thank you to my mentor and big sister, Shelli, for pushing me to new limits and supporting me consistently. Thank you to my parents and my aunty Marly for instilling me with faith and keeping me motivated. Lastly, I want to thank my friends and all the ladies who reached out to me to donate a gown. I am so appreciative and I can’t wait for us to assist more girls and do this every year to come.
