We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevon Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trevon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
So, my business name is 10pcBlessing. On my logo, I use the peace sign (deuces) instead of the “pc”. Any who, everyone who knows me knows that I am a wing lover. Maybe a wing connoisseur… I kept thinking to myself “What can I do with my love for wings?” When covid first hit, I had a lot of time to brainstorm. As I’m jotting ideas down, I thought maybe I could do a clothing brand. I wrote down a list of names of what I could call my brand, but none of those names stuck. Then I thought, “I always order a 10pc combo. How can I use that into play?” I didn’t want to use “combo” as apart of my brand name because that was just the obvious. So, on my paper I wrote “10pc” and started thinking what could complete that. Then I thought about how blessed I am and that this was a blessing to be given this fire and the courage to even want to start my own business. Then, I added “Blessing” to “10pcBlessing”, but I didn’t stop there. I really didn’t want to use the “pc” on my logo. I wanted it to be something outside the box. I kept saying over in my head “pc” until it became “peace” (the deuces sign). So, I drew up my idea, a friend of mine recommended a logo designer, hit her up and she brought my idea to life. That is how my business came to life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As of right now, I am a small business owner. I started my business last year September. I’m only selling shirts and hoodies. My next goal is to start selling joggers, shorts, masks hats, etc. I thing my brand name sets me apart from others. Every time I tell someone what my brand name is and explain the name, they say that’s dope, unique or different. This road have not been easy and I’m only in the beginning. I deal with a lot of negative thoughts like “What if I fail? What if nobody likes/supports what I’m doing? What if my business never goes anywhere?”. Then, what really gets me is when I see other businesses thriving and I’m like what am I not doing to be where they are. I had to realize that I can’t look at what other people got going on. I have to focus on what I got and how I’m going to take it to the next level. I had to change my mindset, the way of thinking. I had to start thinking and acting as a business owner. Also, I had to keep my faith in God strong and trust in him. I am most proud of myself for even having a business and the desire I have for it. I want the world to know that 10pcblessing will be at the top very soon!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would take my best friend to go get some wings. Atlanta is known for its wings. my favorite wing spot would probably have to be touchdown wings, ATL best wing and, of course, American deli. I would take them to some fun areas like the Atlanta selfie museum, The Complex, Round 1, Krog street market, the belt line, pounce city market, the aquarium, the world of Coca Cola, the zoo, The puttshack, the escape room and the battery. Some food spots we would explore would be Another broken egg, Atlanta breakfast club, ATL fusion bbq, Le petite Marche, and lily’s restaurant. Of course we would have to hit up some lit spots like cru lounge, fin and feathers, OAK Atlanta, Madhouse, Area 4 etc..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I would like to thank Jesus Christ for everything he has done for me. I want to thank him for giving me this passion to explore. When there were times I wanted to give up, he gave me the strengthen to keep pushing. Without him, none of this would of happen. I would like to shoutout my mom who is my solid rock, my backbone, my everything. She is always there for me. I would like to shoutout my friends and family whom I told my idea to and they never once doubted me. They kept pushing me and believing in me. Shoutout to the people who supported 10pcBlessing. Whether it was being in my photo shoots, buying my merchandise and/or giving my brand a shout out. I would like to shoutout my homie Darius for recommending me to Shoutout Atlanta. Last but not least, I would like to shoutout all the wings out there. Thank you for being my inspiration and for being so delicious.
