We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Pruitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Travis, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Was leaving my children back home with their mother to purse my dream of being a camera operator for the NFL and NBA.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a freelance camera operator & replay operator. I work I sports broadcasting covering high school games, college games, and professional sports.

What set me apart from others is that I’m always studying my craft and learning from others, and learning from others people mistakes. My job is never the same which is something I love about it. I learn something new each day to go to work.

What I’m most proud of is I really turned my dreams into a reality. Picked up a camera in 2008 as a hobby and didn’t know this would be my career path seventeen year later. Picking up a camera is the best thing I could have did. And my son was the reason I did that. Back in 2009 I wanted to document him growing up and that’s when I got my first camera. And I haven’t put the camera down since.

I got to where I’m at today by networking and reaching out to people and just asking for help. Letting people know who I was and what I was trying to do. I also took a leap of faith by moving to Atlanta in 2013 to purse my dreams of working in sports as a camera operator. Stared shooting and editing music videos at first and shift my focused over to sports and haven’t looked back since. I

It definitely wasn’t easy getting to this point in life. I’m just glad I never gave up on my goals and dreams. A lot people said a lot of discouraging things to as I was coming up in the business. Example me having dreads, me not going to college etc.

The lessons that I learn was to always believe in yourself even if other people don’t believe in you. Stuff your craft that way when you do get that big opportunity you are well prepared because you been practicing and studying.

I want the world to know that I came from a small town outside of Chicago. I was a raised by my granny and my mother. I didn’t let being from a small town stop me from pursuing my dreams and goals in life. The best thing I could have ever did was leave my hometown. It forced me out my comfort zone, it taught me how to be indepenent, and it also just open the doors for new opportunities that I would have never got if I never left my hometown. Get out your comfort zone and take that leap of faith. You only live once!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite sports in the city are

The Battery where the Braves play. Lots of entertainment and fun especially when the Braves are in town

Main Event: Fun place to take your kids and your family.

Rock Steady: Is a nice little spot I like to go to on the weekends.

Spaceman: Has a nice vibe as well. Good for date night and sky views of Buckhead with good food and drinks

Buckhead Village: Is a nice spot I like to take my friends to as well for food and drinks

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
