We had the good fortune of connecting with Tory Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tory, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start my own business doing something I loved without taking me away from the responsibilities I enjoyed doing for someone else’s business. I love being an optician, and I love connecting people to each other to help form a symbiotic relationship in business. Getting jobs for people is something that brings me joy and so does helping people see so I had to think of the perfect solution to form both of those in relation to each other.
What should our readers know about your business?
From the few years, I have been in optical the consistent trend I have seen in every office and had in common with all my colleagues is that the turnover rate in optical is extremely high. This is for every position whether it is doctors, technicians, opticians, front-desk staff, etc. There are so many staffing and recruiting agencies in the market. including medical, but there aren’t any to fill just the need of optometrists or ophthalmologists offices. My staffing agency satisfies the need and resolves the open positions in your office with qualified candidates. We prescreen each candidate and find the right hire for your company.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite thing to do in the city is going to an early dinner on a beautiful* Sunday afternoon at Barcelona in Inman Par. Then, walking over to the east side of the Beltline and hitting up 3 Taverns Imaginarium Brewery. The Double Smack, a coffee milk stout, is the best beer to get if they haven’t sold out! And then taking that amazing beer to the fire on the patio and watch the sun go down.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is for Vanessa Neet at Alpharetta Eye Clinic and Lisa Stonebraker. Over 2 years ago, Vanessa reached out to me and asked if I was looking for a job, and at the time I was desperate to do anything else. She asked me if I’d be interested in being an optician, which I had never heard of before, but I was interested from just one google search. On my first day at Alpharetta Eye Clinic, I met my manager Lisa, who is a licensed optician. This brilliant mind ignited the flame for my optical career, without Vanessa and Lisa I’d probably still be miserably managing a Chick-fil-A. She started the foundation in all my optical knowledge. Many people who do not see their optometrist regularly don’t realize all of the important factors that play into the role of your optician everyday for you to see correctly. The attention to detail is paramount, especially when reading and verifying prescriptions. There are so many components that must be handled with complete accuracy from prescription, insurance, health factors, lens options, frame fit, etc. She led me into a career path and a passion I didn’t even know I had. I will always be grateful for the knowledge and experience she instilled in me.
