We had the good fortune of connecting with Tonya Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tonya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thoughts came when I realized the need for simple, elegant, everyday jewelry. I would go to the malls looking for something and always found thing catered for the “younger crowd”. Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of there looks, but I am not young anymore! Even women is unique in her own right. I create unique pieces catered for the uniqueness of every women.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently work as a Oncology Nurse at the VA Medical Center. Nursing is not an easy profession and Oncology, well it speaks for itself. I graduated with honors after being kicked out of nursing school for failing 2 classes! Failing is a part of life and growth. Giving up was not and option! Nursing is about caring and healing the same with my jewerly business. The gemstones I use all have healing properties and I apply love and care to each items I create.

I first started being as a stress relief in 2015 after losing my dad in 12/28/2013 then my mother in law in 12/10/14. Creating allowed me to work through my grief.

There has been many challenges in maintaining a business and working full time as well as being a wife and a mom. Finding time to create is a challenge and Balancing is always a challenge,

My brand offers unique creations to accent the uniqueness of everyone’s style. Embellish Accessories is about adding to your style and to Embellish the beauty within.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some places we could visit to eat Milk and Honey, Gumbeaux’s in Douglasville, Marietta Dinner. Some place we could visit are Atlantic Station, Piedmont park, World of Coke, The Beltline, Martin Luther King Center.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost- I Thank God for being the Shepard in my life. My husband who is my rock and has always pushed me to go higher, my sister who has always been one of my biggest cheerleaders and Veronica Smith whose sweet spirit is always encouraging.
