We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Houser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The process behind starting my business was to provide moms with a unique hair salon experience that caters to each woman individually.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, while others were scattering trying to find mask, daycare, work, and so many other important things. I was actually enjoying and welcoming some much needed and deserved ME time. I’d spent the last 20 years or so being a mom, wife, teacher, nurse, pretty much everything to everyone in my house, when the world begin to shut down so did I…and thank God I did!

When I finally took a moment to focus on me, I realized that from age 25 to 38 I had gained almost 100lbs, I was borderline diabetic, elevated blood pressure levels and was sitting in the operating room waiting to have an emergency gallbladder removal surgery. How did I get here? When did I lose sight of me? Furthermore, how could I regain focus of what was most essential… ME!

My name is Tiffany Houser and I am the Owner of Ohana Braiding. I have been married for 13 years to an outstanding man. We have six kids and four grandkids. I have over 25 years of hair braiding experience but most important I strive to honor and serve God in all things.

Ohana braiding is a mom-focused salon designed to help moms escape their typical hair salon experience while allowing us to create a space that caters to their specific needs. We offer affordable protective hair care services for natural hair in an environment that promotes self-care. In addition, we offer theme-based experiences to help enhance your mental and emotional state.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Currently I enjoy all aspects of Atlanta but if my best friend visited I would take her to Atlantic Station and the Avalon in Alpharetta. I enjoy eating outside and good music. I love the downtown areas with shopping and outdoor activities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have met several people along the way that encouraged me to pursue my dreams. It’s hard to choice one person specifically, but if I must it would be Juanita Davis. She has been very encouraging and supportive from the beginning of my journey. Juanita has been there cheering me on and holding me accountable. Now I have my husband, children and a host of other loved ones that make the journey lighter and more enjoyable.
