We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Forte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew there was a lack of black female representation in the fitness industry based on my personal experiences and wanted to create something that supported the idea of black women taking better care of ourselves, getting serious about our health, and speaking nothing but positivity over ourselves. Enter Fit and Female Fitness Program! I wanted to do my part in helping to change the way the fitness industry views women of color by proving that you can have curves & can still do a burpee, you can be melaninated & can still run marathons, and most importantly, that black women do care about our health.

Developed from the lack of black women & women of color being represented in the fitness industry and lack of diversity, Fit and Female Active is reinventing the way you workout by providing that space, being inclusive, & meeting you where you are on your fitness journey

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
To be honest, I always saw myself as a business owner. When I was younger, always knew I didn’t want to work for someone for the rest of my life, and was always interested in creating my own lane. I took an interest in fitness and became a personal trainer and my business just grew from there. It was NOT easy learning how to operate, run, plan, market a business, and be good at it doesn’t come overnight; but we are making it! Ha! When challenges come, I just figure out a solution….it’s as simple as that. That is what being an entrepreneur is about, simply figuring out all of the answers to problems (or hiring someone who can lol); and staying persistent. I learned that everyone won’t be rooting for you. Everyone wont flock to your brand, and thats OK! You don’t have to be for everyone. I want the world to know that black women are out here living their dreams, building businesses, and loving life. I’m no different from you sis, and if I can do it, so can you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok! So things may look a little different in DC since COVID, but let’s run this back to 2019!

We would go to my run club on Monday and get that workout in and have dinner at this amazing authentic South American food spot; on Tuesday, visit the African American History Museum and have a nice picnic on the mall next to the Washington Monument; Wednesday we would catch a Wizards Basketball Game and then go for dinner afterwards; Thursday we would go to a nice lounge for dinner and music; Friday we are going to a nice Jamaican food restaurant for lunch and then hitting up another lounge that evening; Saturday we are going to a dope brunch spot and then floating the Potomac; and then on Sunday we are going to a day party turned club scene! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow! I have to shout out Dr. Marcie Ross. She and I met in 2019 and when we met, I have to admit, I wasn’t super friendly to her. We were at a conference and we were both speakers. While in the green room, I was seated and doing some prep work on the computer and really didn’t want to be bothered at the time, but she didn’t care and was not picking up on any of my body language to leave me alone lol! She eventually got me to engage in conversation and we started talking and instantly became friends! I LOVED HER! We ended up hanging out all day, even found out we were presenting in the same room. We have been friends ever since. She is someone who has encouraged me and supported my business from day one and is really just a vibe. As black-female entrepreneurs, we deal with so much and its nice to have a solid support system to help you navigate through the tough times. She is definitely in my inner circle and Im so glad to call her a friend!
