We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffane Nicol and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffane, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The ideal to open a beauty school came from several years of me owning and operating salons. I founded over the years, new professionals were finishing hair school with only basic text book knowledge. Once I hired new beauty professionals, I was obligated to train them on “Salon Reality”, current techniques and the salon business. I founded myself developing beauty bosses and I felt in-love with the ideal of training the next generation of Beauty Boss Professionals.

Now my passion for the beauty business pushed my vision from a traditional beauty school to a University of Professional Students. This allowed me to birth Style Mobb University (SMU)… the world’s 1st cultural driven HBCU Beauty school.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Style Mobb University (SMU)… the world’s 1st cultural driven HBCU Beauty school. My vision is to give beauty students a traditional college experience while attaining the credit hours needed to become a license professional.

My goal is to change the way beauty schools look, offer students more for their money, create an unforgettable experience and increase the revenue of beauty professionals. In addition to the college experience all of SMU’s Professional Students are dual enrolled into SMU’s signature Advanced Training Academy. SMU’s Advanced Training Academy equip our professional students for salon reality and teach current techniques. Not only does SMU prepare beauty students to pass the state board exam, but SMU prepare beauty students to succeed in the beauty business.

The vision is clear and SMU attracts amazing students and professionals from all over the world, so much, we offer Student Housing for our professional students that move from other states. Yup! Students Housing for beauty school students! The college experience is real and the HBCU culture is heavy!!!

Was it easy to birth this business? NO!!! Actually, at the same time I decided to open a cosmetology school was the same time I started to go through a divorce and the world was hit with a pandemic. My passion for the beauty business gave me unbreakable strength to push through all the noise. Funny thing, my 1st salon name was Diamonds & Pearls Image Studio people always asked why Diamonds & Pearls and my joke was “Because we are polishing our clients jewels (hair, makeup, nails, etc.)”. Now that name hits me differently, let me explain: When we graduated our 1st group of 24 students, I saw a room filled with diamonds. In lames terms, pressure make diamonds and I saw my sacrifices paying off! Developing the 1st beauty school such as Style Mobb University hasn’t been easy but the treasure is worth the blood, sweat and tears.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For great food & a cool vibe we going to Blu Seafood and Cirque for lunch and dinner for sure!!!! The food is bomb!!!

I’ve reached the age where hanging out isn’t really my thing anymore, but I always love to catch a great game (football, basketball or soccer), a good concert and catch up with family. Im a mommy to an amazing 7 year older boy “Sidney Crown” … he’s the light to my entertainment these days!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must shoutout my Co-Founder and Director of Education Kay Brown “Miss Kay”!! It literally took one call and she could see the vision clearly. We were already aligned to walk this journey together, the time finally presented itself and she has had my back like chiropractor ever since. I couldn’t ask for a better person in my corner, by my side and as my co partner.

Everyone loves her, the students, the instructors and the clients! She’s the yin to my yang! Lil’ Big Kay…..lol
