We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiesha Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiesha, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most impactful thing I have done as a parent is show my child what genuine, selfless love is and how to display it to others.

What should our readers know about your business?
We Have a Purpose is a grassroots youth development organization in Russell County, AL with a deep focus on empowering and supporting youth and addressing the impact of the school to prison pipeline. We believe in the power of positive adult influences in the lives of our youth and provide holistic wrap up around services from prevention and intervention to post program success. Youth who have experienced trauma, poverty and adverse life experiences face the systems of education and justice simultaneously at disproportionate rates.

I started We Have a Purpose in 2014 as a non profit organization, because I had a desire to see young people succeed, regardless of their circumstances, regardless of many obstacles or the hurdles they may have to overcome, as I did. Being a teen mom, growing up in an area that lacked opportunities and seeing the lack of support for justice impacted youth and the increasing number of youth entering the school to prison pipeline. I saw a way that my own life experience, education and passion could help with the trauma, poverty and hardships in life many face with no help in these systems, as I experienced. I desired to address the disproportionate rate of youth of color that this systemic issue affects. I had to make happen what wasn’t present for me, make happen for others in similar situations. With my degree I could have easily went into a for profit business. And, that will be a part of the story of We Have a Purpose at some point. However, for now this is the journey, to give to youth what was non existent during my journey. To ensure they see and feel supported, To help them to know, by living proof and example that you can have life on the other side of your struggle, your pain, your trauma.

Resilient Family Wellness offers services to help individuals overcome trauma, anger, life’s circumstances and unresolved issues hindering them or their family from living the happy life they deserve. My life experiences (entrepreneurship, divorced parents, teen mom, blending families, car accident trauma, just to name a few) and passion for family and community has granted me the opportunity to provide an array of services in multiple capacities.

We specialize in parent and emotional distress coaching. We equip Imperfectly Perfect Parents with the tools to help parents show up for their children as their authentic self. We offer individual and group coaching sessions utilizing my book and curriculum Imperfectly Perfect Three Steps on the Parenthood Journey. We provide the necessary coping skills to individuals who have experienced emotional distress from a personal injury, such as car accidents and other traumatic events. Our clients are referred by their attorneys to receive coaching after the crash.

I’ve learned quite a few lessons along the way. My favorite lesson has been as long as I am working and walking in love and purpose everything will fall in place. I don’t chase the bag, I pursue the thing I love, helping others, and God provides the bag.

Being able to share this journey with my husband and daughter is extremely rewarding for me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Throughout the week we would workout together at OTB Fitness, volunteer at a local shelter or nonprofit, and catch up on life.

When we’re not cooking our meals, we would eat at Cooking with Miss Tina Creative Cuisine, Rising Flour Pizza, Mary’s and Mary’s, and Lily B Rose.

Friday evening we will hang out at The Photo Shop Selfie Museum. Later that evening we will patronize at Navi Wine Bar & Tasting Room.

Saturday will consist of a spa day with Christine Lemons for an amazing massage and Snatched Beauty for facials and waxes. We will tap into our inner kids by attending The Kombat Zone for a nerf gun war. Saturday evening will end with TP.CUM indulging in unique mixtures.

Sunday we will attend church service at Friendship Baptist Church #3 and attend a flag football game in the park.

If there are any empowerment or networking events going on the city we would definitely be attending.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter, Tanaya and husband Tjai. Being a teen mom is not something people plan on becoming. However, it was apart of God’s plan for my life. Your existence has been my biggest push to be successful and a real model. The journey has not been an easy one but it has definitely been worth it. I made a promise to show you that through hard work, dedication, and God you can and will be successful. Thank you princess for patience, love, compassion, prayers, and understanding. You’re the biggest part of this thing called life. I thank God for you.

I’m thankful I never gave up on love and family. You’re definitely an answered prayer. With you I’m able to take off my cape and put down my shield. You’re my favorite good morning and good night. Cheers to more success in every aspect of our lives.
