We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia Haines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There wasn’t really a thought for me. I never woke up and said, I want to start my own business. I was the one (still am) that was ok with working in the corporate world, ladder climbing, retaining good benefits, and building my 401k. Baking was just something that I did for fun starting out. For me, it started about 5 years ago when I wanted to do something special for Mother’s Day for all of the women in my life. That something special was taking their favorite dessert and turning it into a cookie and it was a HIT! For my family, my baking talent started when I was younger (single digit years). Now that I bake professionally, they tell me all the time that I made the best brownies and cookies as a little girl, so I guess it was destiny.

After my Mother’s Day experiment, I became in charge of all of the desserts for any family function and was always told that I need to sell my treats, but it was my husband who convinced me to take this seriously and start a business. He’s also the one that came up with the name and helped me with my first logo.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What makes my business unique is that I do a little of everything. I’m not a flashy cake designer that can turn a cake into a purse or a car… I’m an old fashioned baker that is focused on flavor creativity and enhancing what baking is all about. My ability to turn almost any dessert into a cookie sets me apart from most (if not all) bakers and I enjoy what I do. It’s not always easy with certain requests that I get, if I’m tired, etc., but in the end, it’s all worth it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and my family definitely deserve a shout out for my success with my business. My family had been telling me for years to sell my treats so they put the idea into my head but my husband is the one that convinced me to stop playing it safe and turn my hobby into a business. He even came up with the name and my first logo design. All of my family were my “guinea pigs,” trying any and every new dessert I brought to the table.
