We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Hewitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theresa, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?

I am from the Caribbean, Jamaica to be exact.

My background played a significant role in who i am today,

growing up as a pastor’s kid, opened the door to me being exposed to an audience which gave me confidence from an early age. Growing up in a religious family, I was exposed to religious teachings and practices from a young age, this helped me to be the dedicated child of God I am now, it also helped me to understand the meaning of faith and it most definitely steered my morals and ethical values in the correct way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a speaker and mentor and also a Guidance Counselor in training who is very passionate about what I was called to do, what sets me apart is that I always put God first and speak by the leading of the Holy Spirit. it wasn’t a task getting where i am, i had to endure hurt, betrayal, embarrassment and loss to get to this point and is only here because of God’s grace and mercy.
I overcame the challenges through prayer and fasting, there were days when I felt like this was it, but then, God helped me to realize that giving up was not an option because it isn’t about me it is about the kingdom of God and God getting all the glory and the praise.

Some lessons I have learnt are: always listen to the voice of God, not all that glitter is gold and that no matter where life takes me, I should remain humble.

I am a living testimony and a product of grace and favor.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Because I am from the beautiful island of Jamaica,  we would be indulging in our famous jerk chicken and pork, curried goat and some local cuisine, like run dung and our corn meal and sweet potato pudding.  The Dunns River falls and let me not forget to mention our seven miles white sand beach located in Negril.

Our breakfast menu is second to none, the famous ackee and saltfish, with green bananas and yam and some cornmeal dumplings, and how could I forget to first mention the steam fish and bammy, tapping that off with some ice cold lemonade and a cold red stripe beer..

We will visit the Bob Marley Museum, the Green Grotto Caves, and the Black River Safari for all day excitement.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to the friends and family who continue to fight for me in prayer and pour into me daily.
