We had the good fortune of connecting with Theory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theory, how does your business help the community?
Our business is centered on the equity, education and social development of the cannabis industry. The American history of marijuana and injustices done by our legislative system cause for a social and economical re-education of the industry. Our team is dedicated to getting the facts about the industry to those who begin take their first steps towards entrepreneurial and recreational use.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Theory- Musician and Artist. I started playing instruments when I was 6 and continued to study throughout college. When I was young I started bands, wrote songs, played for churches and gigs, opened my own recording studio, toured around the world, lived in LA, Atlanta, Houston, Doha Qatar. I’ve worked with grammy winning and nominated artist, major labels, Disney World TV, Netflix, and Indie Films. I’m currently a lecturer at Norfolk State University and own two companies, Commonwealth Flower Co & Music Tech. I’m most proud of my ability to dream, chase and believe. I’m always overly optimistic, and overcome my obstacles by work and education. One of the hardest things about being a creative and entrepreneur for your profession is that you’ll always have to rely on what people think about your work as a means to generate income. My biggest hurdle in the beginning of my career was to believe when nobody else did. Being confident and assured in your goals is a skill I use in every aspect of business and life. Knowing to trust yourself is one of tough lessons that helps me as an entrepreneur. Commonwealth Flower Company came about after my return to Virginia from Los Angeles. Being born and raised in Virginia you grow acustom to the stigmatism and crimination of marijuana. Many factors such as religion, traditional values and legislative history play a part in the negative conditioning and rhetoric. When I moved to Los Angeles I discovered the multiple holistic, medical and recreational uses of cannabis aren’t something to be frowned upon and that the plant we were conditioned to think was bad actually had a lot of monetary and social value. I wanted to create a space where we could change the narrative in our home state

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Richmond is a great place, most of my friends are musicians and their are plenty of music, food and art festivals there. Im vegan so Philly Vegan in Richmond, VA is one of my favorite places to go eat. Virginia Beach is also a fun place to have dinner and have fun. Top Golf, Apex and the Va Beach Towne Center are great places to go play games and get food. Waterside and Granby Street in Norfolk has a variety of bars for the weekend. They’re usually a performance at the Chrysler Museum, The Norva or The Norfolk Scope. You could also go to the beach, movie and bowling in smaller cities like Hampton, Portsmouth and Newport News!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are a recent start-up, most of our support and love has come from our friends and family! S/o to our community for showing out to our first event. GH Studio in Hampton, Va. for giving us the venue and Nesta’s Novelties for being our vendor
