We had the good fortune of connecting with The Scenic Collective and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Scenic Collective, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Our band is made up of three members: Don Honeyghan (vocals, guitar), Dylan Allen (vocals, drums, guitar), and Christina Hogg (vocals, piano). All three of us come from different parts of the country, but we met in high school in a small town outside of Atlanta, GA. We all got involved on the worship team at a local church and clicked right away due to our love of creating music. (We actually named our band after the street the church was on; shout-out to Scenic Hwy in Snellville.) Our background in contemporary worship really influences the style of music we make now. It combines the declarative, anthemic style of worship music with a punk rock edge.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Scenic Collective is different from the average band because we are not afraid to dive deep into our emotions and write songs about the mental health struggles we are experiencing. Our songs aren’t just about sex and drugs; we are willing to dig into our relationships, the problems we’re experiencing in our day-to-day lives, and the depression and anxiety we all face in this post-pandemic world. We are most proud of our first single, Happily Ever Now. It was the first song we wrote, recorded, and shot a music video for all by ourselves. We actually used that same music video to help one of our band members propose to his long time girlfriend (and now we’re all looking forward to the wedding in 2024!).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We all love going to Downtown Decatur to eat, shop, and spend time together. There are lots of nice places along the Beltline we all love too, like New Realm Brewing Company. That place has incredible drinks, and also great food. We went there to celebrate after we shot our first music video.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have been musically influenced by a ton of people in our lives. Bands like Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Shinedown, Icon for Hire, Skillet, and Loveless have influenced our style and made us want to get into the music industry in the first place. The worship pastor at our first church, Charity Bandy, helped develop us into the musicians and performers we are today. Without her leadership we never would have been able to get the confidence to start our band in the first place. Another pastor at the church, Marcelo Lagos, gave us guidance on how to get started in the music industry, such as what equipment to buy and how to go about recording songs and shooting music videos. We also really appreciate the support from our family, friends, and partners.
