We had the good fortune of connecting with The Illustrated and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Illustrated, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our thought process is and always has been about the art. When we created The Illustrated, we wanted to create music that connects with people the same way we connect with music. We want to create songs that inspire, move and uplift people. We also want our business to be about more than music. It’s about connecting with people, and creating for a purpose much larger than ourselves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In todays music industry, there isn’t much breathing room. It’s mainly bite size songs with 2 or 3 main lyrical/melodic ideas that repeat twice and end. While this is widely popular and effective for selling copies, it’s not what we feel art should be about. We aim to tell stories with our songs. We try to paint pictures with our lyrics, create melodies and harmonies that are distinct, use unique sounds/tones that give the songs an identifiable quality, all while keeping space in the music to allow the listener to digest what they are hearing.
We also like to say that we take our art seriously, but not ourselves. We are all goofy individuals and we like to have fun while we create.
Our brand is largely based around our passion for mental health/mental health awareness. Many of our songs topics are derivative of the lives of the members in the band, and often have to do with the struggle of mental health/relationships.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We don’t get out much. Most of our time goes to writing, playing shows, and hanging out with out closest friends at home.
However, some of our favorite spots are Hoagie Bros, The Battery, Marietta Square, Sope Creek Hiking Trails, La Fuente Mexican Restaurant (usually for lunch break on studio days), and downtown Roswell.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many to list here! I’ll try to keep it concise.
Our families; for their dedicated love and support of our craft. In so many ways, we can’t do this without them.
Our fans; for taking the time to listen to what we do and being the reason we keep creating.
Our engineer/producer Scott Kieklak; for making us sound amazing on record, and for being an inspiration in every way.
Nite Discroll and the AIMM faculty; The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media has been a catalyst for our knowledge, professionalism, and connections in the industry. And they are our family.
