We had the good fortune of connecting with Thamicha Isaac and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thamicha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We take risk everyday; to take action or not to take action. Either way there will be consequences based on those risk or rewards based on those risk.
We have to be very intentional about the paths we want to take in order to see successful results based on the risk we take.
For me taken the risk of being vulnerable to a population that is so programmed by societal norms, prejudices and ignorance as a Caribbean /American black woman living and thriving with an HIV diagnosis in the 21st century is still considered taboo.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of the fact that I can go back home to my native country of St Martin/ St Maarten and be a voice, raise awareness, Eradicate stigma and implement ways in how people living with a diagnosis can thrive and live normal lives.
I created an initiative call the crimson queens where I invite other openly positive advocates to travel with me to SXM and we curate empowering events, host radio interviews with local Dj’s, Mc’s, we get to inform the government on how to help their local community based organizations or AIDS Services organizations provide a holistic approach to assisting people living with HIV and center black women. Often times when people talk about HIV they are more LGBTQIA+ focused rather then women centered.
I am where I am professionally because of a very unfortunate event in my life I had no choice but to chosen self, and by chosen self I had to be vulnerable, I had to start from the bottom and alone. It wasn’t easy but it was necessary. Every moment insures was necessary for my growth, for my level up as the streets would say lol.
I needed those lessons because they build my character and the person I was yet becoming.
I don’t want to get religious because I am the least religious person however, I believe that when your getting ready to be elevated in life by God, the universe whom ever is your deity or spiritual guidance of choice, you are stripped from everything that keeps you comfortable and complacent in mediocrity. You are isolated from people, places and things that can’t carry you to your next destination and that’s where I was in 2017-2018-2019. I felt like I was set apart and was being worked on mentally, emotionally and physically in a way I have never been worked on before. During that period I’ve learned to trust my own voice, I’ve learned to be impeccable with my actions and words and to be very intentional with my time and who I spend it with.
During that time I also came up with my 5 P’s method that I apply daily:
-Prayer (medication, yoga, self care)
– Preparation ( journaling, vision boarding)
– purpose (Advocating, philanthropy)
– passion ( what drives you? What keeps you up at night?)
– Provision ( paid travels, speaking engagements)
Applying my 5 P’s method keels me on track with my life, it allows me to be me, it also allows me to have fun while creating the life I desires and dream of daily. If there’s something in my story I don’t like I’m the author in real life lol all I have to do is rewrite the story to fit what I want.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Monique Denton, Davina Otalor, my Kids, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey call life. Without my Tribe they know who they are I wouldn’t be here to share these parts of me with the rest of the world, for that I am grateful.
