We had the good fortune of connecting with Terry Berger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terry, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I honestly don’t feel like I ever actively made the choice to pursue a creative career – it always just seemed like a no-brainer to me. I’ve always been a very creative-thinking person so having a career doing something creative just seemed like the only option in my head.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that I really value and consider the backbone of Terry’s Vintage is telling stories behind each article of clothing or vintage piece that I collect. I am always fascinated to hear people tell me the story of their favorite coat, something that they wore in a fashion show, or their mother’s favorite vintage dress. Being able to pass on this story to the person who eventually buys the piece from me helps let the history and the piece itself have a second life, which is what selling vintage is all about to me.
The process hasn’t been easy and I know it will continue to be difficult as I grow. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it! The struggles of owning your own business and trying to do everything yourself are what makes it more rewarding in the long run.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is hard because I have so many favorite spots in Atlanta! During the warmer months especially, I love doing outdoor yoga classes – you can find them all over but my favorites are in Piedmont Park, Westside Park, and Colony Square. For coffee and food, some of my favorites are: Buttermilk Kitchen, Taqueria Del Sol, Barcelona Wine Bar, Cupanion’s, Antico, Grindhouse Killer Burgers, and Anis Bistro. Thrifting and vintage shopping is always a must and some of my favorite vintage stores in and around Atlanta are Ecologie Vintage, Decatur Estate, Motherlode, Catalogue and Outpost in Little 5 Points, Space Queen, The Modernist Design Collective, and The Lucky Exchange. There are always so many vintage markets happening every weekend as well so I would definitely stop by some of those. To end the evening for drinks, Burle’s Bar at The Victorian on the Beltline is super cute and unique (go on their jazz night!), and one of my favorite spots is the rooftop at the Clermont Hotel. I recently just went to Stereo in Inman Park for the first time (it’s a Hi-Fi listening bar by night, coffee shop by day), and that place was cool too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give credit to both of my parents who have always been so supportive of whatever I’m working on or passionately pursuing. I genuinely couldn’t do what I do without their constant help and advice and I’m very grateful to have their support.
