We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrace Townsend and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terrace, how do you think about risk?
Everything that we do in this life is an act of taking a risk. I know there are certain things that we deem as “safe” or “secure”, but the truth of the matter is that even those things can shift at any time. Taking a risk can often feel scary, however, I see it as an opportunity to learn. Taking risks has contributed to the foundation and building blocks of my life and career. It was a risk to start my first business in college, it was a risk to start a new venture while moving across the country for the first time, it was a risk to quit my job and pursue entrepreneurship full time. Taking a risk means venturing into the unknown. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that I will either succeed or if I fail, I will learn more regarding why something doesn’t work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and operator of L.I.C. Marketing Company, a full-service digital marketing firm. We’re fast, creative, and have a service standard that’s second to none, allowing clients to enjoy not only the results of our work, but the entire collaborative process. We ensure all deliverables are highly actionable, aligning brand strategy with business strategy to help organizations grow. Getting to where I am business-wise was no easy feat. I am thankful for my earlier years as a business owner and my experience working in a corporate setting. These experiences have truly shaped me into the business woman that I am today. As a service based business, it is easy for clients to try to take advantage of certain offerings. It is human nature to try to take the shortest trip from point A to B or to get more for less. This taught me to implement and enforce company policies that protect my business but also protect my clients as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Breakfast/Brunch at Folk Art
Lunch/Dinner at Taqueria Del Sol in Decatur, Krog Street Market, and Two Urban Licks.
Entertainment/Fun:
1. The High Museum
2. Ponce City Market – Grab a bite to eat in their food hall, then go to the roof for drinks, games, and a nice view of the city.
3. Activate Gaming Experience

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Success is not a road that is walked alone. I want to highlight my mother Ursula, because even when she didn’t understand what I was doing, she always cheered me on and told me to trust myself. Thank you to my sisters TeArra and TeArrace for always being my biggest supporters, and pushing me to keep going. Last but not least, thank you to my husband Jonathon. Choosing the right partner on this journey has made all the difference. I am grateful for all the ways you love, support, and push me to excellence.
