We had the good fortune of connecting with Teondrea Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teondrea, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My whole thought process was initially just trying to start a career where my schedule could always be flexible due to me having a child but soon after it be and more of a lifelong dream that I was finally achieving . It was no longer about the money . I always did hair growing up but it just because but when I started to realize I can go far with this . I started taking it serious . I went to school , got my business license , hair license , and it was up from there .
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In hair school the most challenging module for me at that time was color . It was so hard for me to grasp the concept of canceling colors , removing colors , making colors bright or dark etc . So that became my main focus until I mastered and now that’s one of my specialties when it comes to locs . Everyone in my hometown loves my color . I can just look at a color on a inspired picture and I know how to formulate and mix to achieve that color if not the exact way even better . My goal in the near future is to come up with my own color line made just for locs .
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Memphis has a lot of lowkey places a lot of people don’t know about you actually have to get out and drive around to know where the hot spots are located . I have a lot a spots I like but you wouldn’t possibly be able to visit them all in one day . So I would say maybe visit Side Street to grab drink and food they have the best pasta EVER . Then we have a daiquiri place called The Candy Shop they have games and really nice drinks .Then maybe end the night at LOVE it’s a club very sophisticated nice adult vibe . I always have a good time there .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My daughter for being a unexpected always making me exceed my expectations to make sure she stays comfortable at all times . My boyfriend for motivating me to go to school when I was scared to step out on a limb .
My mom , stepdad , and in laws for the support and encouragement, and good advice.
My uncle for encouragement as well especially with me trying to become a business owner and needing assistance in that area .
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart .
