We had the good fortune of connecting with Telia Lambey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Telia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My process was I can do that if not just as good, even better!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an independent Record Label who prides ourselves in authentic and versatile talent. Our artists are dynamic in various genres and have really developed into solid talent that can reckoned with the best of them on any level given the same platform and resources.
I am proud of the talent we have because I have watch the artist grow on every level professionally, individually, and within their talents. I am excited because my daughter is not only an artist on the label but she is a young entrepreneur who I see leading in the near future this company to getting universal recognition.
We are where we are from unwavering drive, dedication, hard work, staying with it, constantly transforming and taking risk with people and business. It was, and is one of the most challenging things I’ve faced in life. I have had to sacrifice a lot with no immediate merits or even payout. These challenges were overcame by really learning the business from all aspects and being hands on with everything to make sure that if a plan was going to fail it wasn’t going to be because it wasn’t done to the best of our abilities.
The hard lessons I had to learn, everyone isn’t going to cross the finish line with you. Everyone will not be able to support you throughout the full journey. Be grateful for the season, reason’s and/or life timers; chuck everything else up to the game and stay focused while keeping your eye on the prize.
I want the world to know that, I knew this is what I wanted to do from the tender age of 15, my big cousin may he rest in peace, Reynold Harry introduced me to music and I strive to complete the mission of what he birth in me by allowing me to sit in his sessions as a young teen. We at DBold Records want to give out good vibrations by making good music not only for our culture but for the world. Our brand is to be bold and be blessed through arts and entertainment so we can be a blessing to mankind.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay, so let’s have some fun in the big apple, I have to explain what I would do with my bestie Dawn, I would start her out with some fun at the casino day one. We would have some lunch at “The Sugar Factory”, then hit the casino to win some money. We would see what event they were having that day and check it out. Depending on the day of the week she came in I would take her to a Networking event. The next day, I would take her to a spa treatment at my favorite place located in queens Spa Castle, this will be a little selfish of me but, this would be my way to get some TLC in while off duty showing them around town. I am sure, I would have some business to check up on so I would take her with me on that journey quickly maybe meet up with some people in the business and then we would head to the Bronx to visit the Hip-Hop Museum and a few Historic Landmarks (Apollo Theater) and some famous native spots for some live performances and music in Harlem. It’s hard to name specifics because it would depend on what is happening during that time and what season we are in. If it is summer we would go to a roof top event in “SOHO”and I would take her to Dumbo park to check out some art shows and outdoor ventures. She loves, thrifty items so I would take her shopping in the city and to various hidden gem locations in the city. My best friend is still single so we would end up in the Hamptons for tea and wine tasting to see what’s mingling we could get into. I have a few good friends that would put together a good adult game night for the occasion for some night time fun. The rest of the time we would do some catching up one on one time and get into what’s going on with one another personally.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I also have to thank my parents. Although, they do not and did not support me the conventional way of supporting, they have picked me up and dusted me off every time I fell to my knees. I also, have family members that would occasionally reach out with words of encouragement and motivational texts messages that keeps me going.
