We had the good fortune of connecting with Tekena Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tekena, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever made in life, was trusting and believing in myself. Once I took that risk, God began to open many many doors for me. I’m so grateful I took that risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart in this industry, is I don’t put myself in a box. I feel I can do any role. I’m most excited about taking my stunt classes!! That’s another thing that will set me apart from other black female actors. The entertainment industry isn’t easy by far. It takes, not only talent but hard work and practicing your skill. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to be easy on yourself. Take criticism and improve. Take one day at a time and be grateful for every opportunity. As a matter of fact, every opportunity is a huge blessing. I would want the world to know that everything I’m being blessed with… I DERSERVE IT!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take my best friends to Jamaica. There’s an aura about that place. The food, music, people and culture that draws me to it. It’s not only a beautiful place but you feel at home there. At leads I do. Food is always phenomenal. I plan to visit again in the near future.

Shout out to my friends and family. They keep me grounded with the love and support they give. It’s overwhelming but I love it. It’s what keeps me going every single day.
