We had the good fortune of connecting with Teekayy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teekayy, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
By the end of my career I want to have inspired young women all across the globe to preserve creativity no matter the obstacle. As a woman that has struggled with a mental illness majority of her life I have endured so much pain and heartache just to get to where I am now and it’s ongoing so learning how to cope and keep pursuing no matter what, so by the end of my career I intend to be a Jane of all trades…I intend to write, act, direct and produce my own multimillion dollar content while sharing my story to motivate people
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My Name is my brand. Although I go by Teekayy to the internet my first and middle name are Ta’Kaiya Nia which means Lovable purpose, so I use that as my life’s mantra. I say that to say, what makes my art different is that I cannot produce or create something if my heart and soul are not in it, because of that it takes me a longer time to create than people I’m around. I’ve learned and am still learning along this process is to focus on your own journey no matter what other people are doing but don’t let another’s success discourage you from your true purpose. I started the content creating journey about seven years ago on Vine and through school, breakups, financial stress, having a child and so much more to name I’ve gotten to where I’m at thus far because no matter how much I fall I eventually get back up again. I want the world to know that none of this is easy but based on the success I’ve seen in myself thus far and the people around me, it’s so worth it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmm that’s a good one…well for starters Monday is self care day so we would definitely be hitting up Jei Ju in Gwinnett county for some massages and spa fun then on Tuesday we’d either go to esco bar for tapas n drinks or hit up La Prillia for a good ole taco Tuesday…Wednesday I’d probably go to Spin on peters street or my sister Stinas house for a good ole game night. Thursday starts the weekend in my world but it’s always a busy day so my friend would get to hang around myself and the other dope people I create with as we film and produce all day and then go to copper cove that evening for some lobster tails or lamb chops with the crew. Friday and Saturday are always up in the air but we’d definitely have to pull up on my sis Stina Diaz at 02 lounge on Friday and my homeboy JR at 1145 for Saturday brunch and well Sundays…Sundays are for brunch so we’re going to Fin & Feathers in Douglasville where I host to enjoy a vibe and some mimosas
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have to shout out my Grandfather for fostering most of my creativity. He has recently transitioned into being an ancestor and his spirit lives in in me forever. I would also like to shout out the ATLverse that includes Tiffany, Lonnie, Jamal & Jay…I’ll even say Blynn because she’s helped as well. These people keep me going beyond what I even think I’m capable and I don’t know where I would be without them
