We had the good fortune of connecting with Teeara Ida and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teeara, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?

I was born in Jersey City, NJ, and moved to Newark, NJ, at the age of 8. I didn’t come from money and was raised in a single-parent home. I watched my mother work double shifts and sometimes 2-3 jobs to make sure we can survive and have the things we want. I was exposed to a lot at a very young age, and growing up in the hood taught me independence but gave me the grit to figure it out and go after the things I want. The struggle gave me so much motivation to get out of the hood and to show others its possible despite where you come from

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Blogging saved my life. I started blogging just for fun; it was an outlet for me to express myself during a very dark time of my life. I was going through depression, and nobody knew. I’ve always been a hustler, so I stayed with a job and barely asked for help. So in everybody’s eyes, I was doing good. That wasn’t true. When I decided to take a leap of faith and move to a new city in my 20’s this is when my creative journey came about. I wanted to share my story to help inspire other women to never be afraid to go after what they want, even if it doesn’t make sense to others. I’ve worked in advertising industry for over 4 years throughout this journey creating content and blogging was always my hobby until the end of 2019 when I started to treat my hobby like a business. My 9-5 provided me with skills that I can apply to my business which I’m very thankful for. The journey was not easy when I was clocking out at 5pm I was clocking into my side hustle and shooting content on the weekends. The pandemic allowed me to really understand my passion and to not be afraid to go after it. I learned its important to embrace the process and if it makes you happy fall in love with the ups and downs.

My platform allows me to be free. I can be myself and connect with other women. I don’t have to put myself in a box or pretend to be something I didn’t want to be. Working in corporate always made me feel like I was in a shell. I was playing politics, always afraid of how I would be viewed as a black woman. As a content creator, I inspire women to be bold + show up as the best version of themselves through fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. My purpose is bigger than looking cute; it’s about making an impact globally and touching women who may not have the confidence to go after what they want. I share fashion content because at a time I wasn’t confident enough to wear what I want, I share ups and downs of my life while taking my audience on a journey with me, I share beauty and self-care content to promote putting yourself first and do what makes you happy. I’m thankful for this journey and the opportunities I was able to receive like working with some of my favorite brands and building a community that believes in me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a great question! Atlanta is the hot spot. I have a highlight on my stories named “ATL food,” and I take my audience with me out to eat while I explore different restaurants from bars, to happy hours, to restaurants. If a friend were visiting, I would ask what kind of vibe are they looking for, but I love ponce city market, the beltline is always a vibe, and recently I just went to Breakfast at Barneys; and the food and drinks were so good!Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This journey isn’t easy, and I wouldn’t have made it without the support. My line sister mykala is a brand strategist, and typically I run most of my ideas by her because she knows my brand inside and out, and I respect her judgment. My best friend Krissy, my accountability partner, started this journey with me when we first moved to Atlanta. It’s so many people, but I’m thankful for my family, friends, internet friends, and creative community. Every like, share, comment, purchase is never overlooked. I’m grateful to be surrounded by supportive people that pour positive energy into me. When I think about giving up, they are here to uplift me and remind me what I’m capable of achieving.
