We had the good fortune of connecting with Ted Phaeton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ted, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ll start by saying I’ve been skydiving twice and, if given the chance I’d go to space if my fiance would let me! Risk is necessary.

You see, so many of us live life avoiding risk, danger, and the chance of being hurt or failing. The reality is that life in itself is a risk. Once I accepted that I had the power to pick the risk I truly wanted to embrace.

All risk comes with its own balance of chance between positive or negative outcomes. Typically though, the greater the risk, the bigger the reward. It’s okay to jump out of planes. It’s not in your best interest to do so without a parachute.

That’s the second part. You need to calculate the risk and give yourself some room to fall and scrape your knee sometimes. (I had to get off that plane. LOL)

I’ve always said risk should be a budget line. How much are you willing to lose in terms of money, time, reputation, or relationships for the potential reward of a particular risk? Once you know what you’re willing to spend, you can start saving up for that goal. Just like the slots in Vegas, there’s a price of admission to all risk.

Here’s the important part… As we elevate ourselves and increase the amount of money, time, reputation, and relationships we have in our lives, the more resources, and community we have to help us take on such risks.
That’s why I’m so passionate about self-development and growth. When we build ourselves up we’re actually becoming parachutes for ourselves and those around us.

My life has been all about risk. From starting my own business to switching career paths, the fruits I’ve enjoyed in life all come from the risk I took to plant the seed. I’ve had my setbacks and I’ve taken my fair share of L’s. However, at the end of the day, I got back up and kept pushing!

You need to be in it to win it! Take that risk and JUMP!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
No Rain… No Rainbows… It’s more than just the name of my podcast, it’s my life motto.

In 2012 I was hospitalized for two weeks because of an Ulcerative Colitis flare-up. It’s an auto-immune disease that targets the large intestine. Stress, diet, and mindset can all had an impact on my body’s reaction. So in other words, I’d landed in the hospital by my own devices.

At the time, I was in a constant state of stress. I was not taking care of myself. And my diet consisted of 20 piece chicken nuggets with ranch dipping sauce, a large fry, and a large sweet tea at least twice a week. I had to make a change.

Fast forward a year later, I accepted my first TV job. That journey would take me to Greenville, SC by way of Saginaw, Michigan. I had never heard of this small up-and-coming city in the southeast. Though, I’s say a lot of people know the name now.

After transitioning from a Meteorologist to an Anchor, I found myself in another rut. The challenge of learning a new skill and the blow to my confidence was a very humbling experience. If I’m being honest, I still get humbled to this day!

Looking back and the challenges I’ve faced, I recognize it was my relationships and support system that truly got me through it all. In the hospital, I had my family. In my career, I have colleagues, managers, and bosses. In business, I have mentors.

We can’t do this thing called life alone. That’s why I started the podcast “No Rain… No Rainbows” It’s all about overcoming our adversities and living our best lives! Even further, I’ve started a men’s networking and empowerment company called The Modern Man. We are a community of men looking to connect and push each other toward our potential.

Men’s mental health has been a huge passion of mine, and I simply hope to combat male isolation and build a community of positive influence and support. I know I’ve been saved by my family and friends. I’d like everyone to have a place to go when they need it!

That’s ultimately what my career, business, and life are really all about. Loving others and Showing Up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Aww, man! So I’m not from Atlanta but I certainly have been plenty of times.

I’d say it depends on the vibe. We can do Family or Nightlife.

If it were me, I’d recommend the classics like the Aquarium, Coke Museum, and College Football Hall of Fame for the kids.

For more of a nightlife style, I’d want to hit up Buckhead one night and bar hop around. Sadly, I would know any specific bars though.

Atlanta has some AMAZING rooftop bars and restaurants to check out.

Finally, depending on the season, I’d suggest catching a Braves game or a Falcons game.

The list can go on and on honestly. Whatever you want, Atlanta has!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t believe in the term “Self-Made Man.” Nothing about me is self-made.

First and foremost shout-out to God for putting breath in my lungs, blood in my veins, and giving me the chance to simply share a bit of my story.

Shoutout to the hardest working people I’ve ever known, my mother and father. Thank you for risking life in a new country, and for the sacrifices made along the way. Your risk has been our reward. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you, but I hope my life serves as an example of the impact you both have had on me.

To my future wife, you inspire me to be the best man I can be and show up as best as I can each and every single day. Your love, grace, and wisdom are guiding lights in my life.

To my friends, mentors, and supporters. You keep the pressure on. You push me each and every single day and keep me accountable for the countless ambitious commitments my mouth always gets me in. I plan to keep showing up as long as you’ll have me.

Finally, shoutout to you if you’re reading this. I don’t know your struggle, story, or testimony, but I’m proud of you for making it here. You got this and have so many gifts to share with the world. I can’t wait to receive them!
