We had the good fortune of connecting with Teasha Chestnut and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teasha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I went to culinary school cause I knew I wanted to bake but I wast really interested in cake decorating. I was researching a project one day for school and came across a recipe for white Russian cupcakes and figured since I was already working as bartender it would be fun to infuse the two.
What should our readers know about your business?
Sugarholic Desserts is a online bakery that specializes in alcohol infused desserts. We take quality ingredients and premium spirits to create innovative desserts that allow our consumers to have their drink and eat it too! Our innovative desserts do more than add “booze” to baked goods as a gimmick but rather use alcohol as a flavor enhancer and elevated epicurian event. The main attraction is breakthrough star, “The Caketini”! A one of a kind creation made up of decadent infused cake layers and boozy homemade icing nestled deliciously inside of a reusable keepsake martini shaker . Each Caketini also comes with a specialty drink recipe card which allows customers to extend their experience long after their last bite. Getting hear hasn’t been easy at all. I started this business originally back in 2015. I ended up taking a 5 year break to mentally get myself together. I recently relaunched last summer because I was on the verge of evictions and need to make fast cash. I had all the tools already so I just went for it. I had a pop at my local liquor store and ended up selling out. The biggest lesson I learned from was that you ll never be “ready enough” but do it anyways.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I m always about trying new things. I would take them to all the tourist hot spots like the botanical gardens, world of coke cola stuff like that. Food wise I would definitely take them to all my favorite Black owned food spots like Hattie B BBQ, The Fry Trap and Sammy cheesecake
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My son Niaz. He makes it easy to follow my dreams. We haven’t had it easy and had to make alot of adjustments. He never complains and always encourages me to do better. When I get really down and out he reminds me of how far we came and how we will go so much further.
