We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is consistency and not letting imposter syndrome get to me. When you are starting a brand from nothing, it takes time to see those results but you have to be patient and keep on pushing. My dad always tells me “The time you fail is the time you stop trying.” I don’t plan on failing anytime soon, the more consistent I am with my brand the more results I have seen. I created TK On Demand in 2016 to help boost career opportunities in journalism and within the 5 years I have been exposed to so many things that I never imagined would of put me this far. Most of my career opportunities after college stemmed from my brand and I forsee that continuing to happen. The power behind creating your own brand, is the leverage you have to be and do whatever you want. I decided I wanted to be a journalism and I did it, creating my own newscast and reporting at live events all on my own. Although I am in my professional career now, my brand still helps to elevate me in the digital realm of journalism.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I created TK On Demand as a news platform to show news organizations that I have what it takes to be apart of their team when I was often overlooked and never receiving the chance to showcase that. In 2016 digital news was not as popular as it is now with 30 second news stories on Instagram or Youtube. Now digital news is how most people consume their daily content. So I find it ironic now that I work for a fully run digital news organization, doing what I was doing on my own in 2016. After 2 years of creating my own news content, I received the opportunity to internship with a few local news station in Tallahassee, FL that taught me a lot about the industry. After graduation in 2019, I started working at NBC’s Today Show and Al Roker Entertainment, as Al Roker’s executive assistant, a researcher and associate producer. This job pushed me outside my comfort zone, working along such experienced and talented people in the #1 news market was intimidating. I learned how to operate in a network news room and picked up skills that I will always carry with me. My peers were so supportive in helping me grow into the journalist I aspired to be. While working at NBC I won an Emmy and it was unbelievable to think 22 year old Taylor, is now an Emmy holder. I did have moments when I felt like I did not deserve the award, having imposter syndrome kick in. I had to keep telling myself Taylor this is your win, your name is on that plaque stop down playing your achievement. As I worked my full time job with NBC and ARE, I was still creating content for TK On Demand. My ultimate goal was to be on air talent and my previous years were not giving me that opportunity so I had to lean on my brand to do that for me. It was challenging balancing my full time job and my brand but I knew it would all be worth it someday. Then one day I received an email from my current job, Straight Arrow News to be an on-air reporter. They discovered me from my social channels for TK On Demand, noticing the drive and talent I had. This was shocking to me that my brand TK On Demand, once again gave me the chance to reach another milestone in my career. I want to let people know that if you have a goal for yourself, go after it. No matter what obstacles may come in the way, continue shooting for the stars and do not give up because in due timing it will all work out for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently moved to Omaha, Nebraska for my new job and there are a lot of places that I have fell in love with here. I’m actually working on some content about the 3 best ways to enjoy Omaha for a weekend, so stay tuned.

My favorite foods spots out here are Mula, its a mexican taco spot with authentic tasting tacos and great happy hour deals. Another spot for my sushi lovers is Butterfish sushi, they have plethora of sushi options, great customer service and the music is always a vibe.

Old marketplace has a historic brick stone look to it, great for instagram photo opps, there’s live music, great food options and unique pop up stores. I plan on taking my friends who are visiting in a few weeks to the Zoo after dark, where you can drink throughout the zoo and see all of your favorite animals. Another spot is Reno’s Karaoke bar, I’m a huge fan of Karaoke and this place is the ideal spot after work on a Thursday where you can reserve a room for free.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my followers because they encourage me to be consistent with what I do. They let me know I can’t fall back because they are expecting content from me everyday whether its a daily news update, travel hacks or fashion trends. There are moments when I do feel discouraged and want to give up but I remember they are counting on me, so that love and support from them is who I do it for.
