Meet Taylor Gutierrez and Ashley Martin | Hair and Makeup Artist & Owners

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Gutierrez and Ashley Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor and Ashley, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For us, it was kind of a no brainer that we would end up pursing a career based on creativity and expression. As sisters growing up in a family of musicians and writers, our love of artistry was nurtured and we’ve always been encouraged to explore our creative sides. From an early age we both have had a love of creating looks through hair and makeup. The combination of that and the desire to make people feel like the best version of themselves is the reason we feel we were lead into this industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart is the variety of services we offer along with the fact that we operate solely on location, which provides a much more personal connection to our clients and gives us more opportunities to push ourselves outside of the box. Being able to engage in people’s lives and make them feel beautiful and confident only reinforces our passion for this industry. We build relationships that last much longer than a wedding day and that’s what keeps us motivated. What lessons have we learned? Gosh, where to begin. Because of how quickly our business took off and how surprising it was to us that it did, we feel like we weren’t able to take our time and make decisions based on long term goals. Our short term goals were being met and forced us to think bigger, more quickly. I think looking back, we should have given ourselves room to breathe. Apart from the obvious “new business owner” lessons that come along with opening any business, we’ve learned about persistence. Unforeseen things happen ALL the time and things are constantly changing, especially in our industry that relies so heavily on current trends. We are committed to staying relevant and educated. We’ve learned to fight for our business that we believe in so much. There will always be obstacles and hurdles to cross but if we keep our focus and drive on point, then we can handle anything thrown at us. And so far we have! We want the world to know that we are still evolving every day. As we speak, we are making big changes to further our reach in the market which will continue to set us apart; adding personal relevance and uniqueness to our brand in hopes that it brings our clients closer to understanding who we are as people AND professionals. We are working on a complete rebrand and revamp of Blush. Huge hint: remember the name Violet + Rose Artistry! The best is yet to come and you better believe 2021 will be our year!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d definitely recommend Ponce City Market! Love the shopping and rooftop games with a great view of the city. Can’t forget Bar Taco and their jalapeño margaritas! They’re a BLUSH fave.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our story wouldn’t be what it is without the love and support of both our family and friends. But for this shoutout, we’d like to give some extra love to our best friends. Our day ones. This group is made up of strong and empowered businesswomen, mothers, adventurers, encouragers and are the family that we have chosen. They are not only there for the highs, but through tears, meltdowns, and the hardest times. And man, has 2020 been full of those. So to Jess, Jenny, Tamara, Lauren, Meghan, and Stephanie…this one’s for you!
