We had the good fortune of connecting with Taya Marin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taya, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I love servicing my bridal and everyday makeup clients and want to continue to do that throughout my career. However, my true end goal for my business is to build a quality, inclusive, cruelty free, and affordable cosmetic product line to be distributed in major retailers such as Sephora, Ulta, and Target. I want to be as hands on as possible custom formulating my products that includes all full coverage foundations/concealers of all shade ranges, highly pigmented shadows, and luxurious highlighters. I’d also love to get into skincare product formulation at some point. While simultaneously building the product line and brand, I’d like to host masterclasses to teach aspiring makeup artists my techniques and how to best use the products from my line.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
By day, I’m a healthcare marketer. By night/weekend, I’m a bridal/event/editorial makeup artist and hairstylist as well as a beauty business owner. I launched my own line of cosmetic brushes in November 2019 and it’s been a rewarding journey. It definitely was not easy, there was a lot of doubt and fear but most successful people move in fear. I understand that no journey to success is easy and there will be plenty of times you’ll operate in fear. There’s no straight line to building a business or a brand but the biggest lesson I’ve learned is consistency beats talent and quality. You can be the best makeup artist in the world with the most quality products but if you aren’t consistently marketing your brand, you won’t see the results. I want my brand to exude my passion for beauty and inclusivity for women of all shades and ethnicities. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God, my family and friends are definitely my support system when it comes to my business. I thank God for the vision He’s provided to me and opening doors that I didn’t feel qualified for. My family and friends are second to none. From allowing me to experiment new styles and makeup techniques on them, to helping me package and ship out brush orders, their support is unmatched. They encourage me everyday to keep striving and pouring into my craft.
