Meet Tashasa Colton | Artist & Model & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tashasa Colton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tashasa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My intention of starting a business was always in the back of my mind. I simply have always had a passion for art and I knew that’s exactly what my business was going to be centered around. When I first started this business I knew I had to do my research on branding, marketing, my audience, and the purpose my business serves. My initial thought was I wanted to give people access to who I am and what I represent. As a black business woman, I wanted to represent an array of styles and services that reflect who I am. It was then that I came up with the name 4 KULTURE! My business offers the following services custom shoes, apparel, paintings, illustrations, accessories, handbags, hats, and more! I will say starting a business takes commitment and dedication. You have to be all in for everything that comes with it! It definitely comes with the territory.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I tend to explore different areas of art. Lately, I’ve been working on portrait paintings, custom shoes, resin and clothing. I think what sets me apart is that all of my custom art is made upon the request of the customer. I love the ability to produce art that is different every time. All of my art are 1 of 1’s so it’s nice to know that your designs will always be unique. I like to describe my style as ever-changing because I always pull the unexpected so you really never know what you’re going to get with me! My paintings are mostly detailed portraits on a large scale……as I like to say go big or go home! I love to push my limits as to what I can do and try the unpredictable. I’m excited to say I am continuing to learn new things as an artist and business owner. One of my proudest moments in this time of my career was receiving letters from the White House for portrait illustrations that I created. It’s bittersweet when your work travels around and people appreciate what your art brings to the world. This road has definitely been a challenging one for me in areas–both mentally and financially. There are going to be some barriers and stressful moments but I that’s what makes it worth it in the end. I’m thankful for the support of my friends, family, art community, and anyone who has given me a listening ear. I look forward to seeing where this journey takes me!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love the city!!! I am a small town girl who likes to venture out in Atlanta often. There are so many things to do and places to visit. I would definitely say let’s grab lunch and then visit the Georgia Aquarium and Top Golf. I am a foodie addict so I love trying new restaurants in the city! My favorite restaurant right now that i’m in love with would be Mckendrick’s Steakhouse. The areas I like the most are Buckhead and Downtown because I love the atmosphere. We would also hit up Perimeter Mall and do some shopping at the local stores in Dunwoody.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off I have to give praises to the most high for all of my accomplishments. I want to give my shoutout to my parents and my SCAD family. My parents have always been supportive throughout my decisions of becoming an artist. It was my dream and passion as a little girl that I was somehow able to make my reality! My dad, the ultimate superhero in my life, made a bet with me that If I kept a 4.0 GPA throughout my time at Jacksonville State University freshman year, I could choose any school of my choice to transfer to. It was always my dream to attend SCAD and when I did I met some of the most amazing people there! I was kid who enjoyed learning new things, skills, knowledge, and other areas of art. Currently, I am a full time grad student at University of Central Florida pursuing my Masters degree in Art Education. It hasn’t been an easy journey but I can say it is well worth it and has made me who I am today as an artist.
