We had the good fortune of connecting with Tashanna Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tashanna, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I wanted to be happy. I think the biggest time fashion became apparent to me was when I attended boarding school, we wore uniforms. They were terrible but honestly, I think they gave us the power to show our style and be our own selves. Outside of just the burgundy and white shirts polo shirts with the tree.
I think I realized in college that I wanted to be a star. I was always in the mix and just that IT girl that everyone was talking about by really just being myself. I think although people may not have understood me they always wanted to get to know me and what I was actually about. After 4 months out of school and working my first adult job at a car rental store, I realized I was so depressed working there. Getting my hands dirty sometimes wasn’t the issue but I just loved my clothes way too much to get them wet. I randomly quit my job and came home to tell my mom. Honestly, she almost lost it, my mom is so huge on her children being independent so I ended up trying something else, a pharmacy tech position. I absolutely hated my job and wanted out ASAP. A month in a half in, I quit. I went 6 months without a job and what a time that was. I stayed down and got a way better job and soon after got fired. I realized it was probably time to do what I always felt I wanted to do but maybe wasn’t as confident in. Modeling, becoming a socialite, and most importantly influencer.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the biggest part of my art that sets me apart is being myself but my most creative self possible. Trying out new clothes, shoes, and hairstyles, getting content, and still being able to book things myself and promote myself as a brand and a walking business is my biggest flex.
I got this far by being consistent and just learning things over time. Learning how to move in a room full of people that could change your life by tomorrow is so important. I think what always makes me laugh the most is when people say “I know you know how to move” or “work the room” because I have an eye for talent and/or know who can help me get where I want to be. I think those people also see me, and they know I’m going to be something huge one day.
Was it easy? No. It’s still not easy being in my freshman year of the entertainment industry was and is not easy, I still have people that laugh at my dream of being an influencer and nothing else. I think people always wonder and ask the most “what’s your plan B?” and to me, there is no such thing. I will be amongst one of the biggest influencers/moguls in the next few years.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
