We had the good fortune of connecting with Taroue Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taroue, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
As a native of Gary, IN, I had the unique opportunity of growing up in a very nurturing and supportive neighborhood. The idea of a village is real. Imagine this……Gary had the first African American mayor in the United States, the late Richard Gordon Hatcher. There is an awesome since of pride when you have been educated by prodimently African American educators. It was normal to see African American professionals like doctors, lawyers, leaders of non profit organizations etc. It builds a tremendous since of pride and confidence. This created a space where my passion and creativity propels me to do the work that impacts our community and culture.

What should our readers know about your business?
Having a background in civil rights, politics and entertainment equips me with a unique perspective. I found a special path to connect the entertainment world with the non profit world. As time evolved, I incorporated my skills to work as a publicist. Today, I find myself storytelling producing documentaries that document our stories. This adds to our narrative as African Americans.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is known for brunch. So, it is necessary to hit the St. Regis and partake in the weekend culinary offerings. As an art collector, it is always appropriate to go by Zucot Gallery. They are the largest African American owned art gallery in the southeastern part of the country. Live music is always in order. City Winery is the perfect place to enjoy live entertainment.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The love that my mom have for her children is PERFECT. When you know that someone prioritizes your well-being, it’s impossible not to have gratitude and love for them. I appreciate her intentions and sacrifices that were made to give me the best life possible. If she does nothing else, she’s done enough.
