We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarah and EJ Kerwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tarah and EJ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We had both been therapists for a number of years. We got together later in life and felt like we understood how to have a healthy relationship. But, when we got married, blended our family, and quickly became pregnant with twins, our relationship became complicated very quickly. We found ourselves struggling to love each other the way that we wanted to and had to put in a significant amount of work to stay connected during this complicated time. We realized that we had to take our personal experiences and help couples learn to build healthy relationships. We know that when your relationship feels stable everything else is more manageable, we decided to dedicate ourselves to helping couples grow together and build long, lasting, and resilient relationships.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We have developed Relationship Renovation, a program that helps couples understand the obstacles they face in staying connected and loving during difficult times. It is a holistic approach to relationship wellness that examines how the past profoundly affects a couple’s relationship. We support couples in developing the insight needed to understand one another better and learn to communicate, connect and build confidence in their relationships durability.
We develop online programs where couples can learn, engage in exercises, and grow closer from the comfort of their own home. We have a counseling center in Tucson, AZ, where hundreds of couples have completed our programs and healed from what may have seemed at one time as insurmountable problems. We also have a weekly podcast, Relationship Renovation, exploring healthy relationship habits and interviewing thought leaders in relationship wellness.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tucson blows people’s minds, they expert the Sonoran Desert to be a barren landscape and discover an incredibly diverse and visually stunning landscape. The outskirts are unparalleled in beauty; we are surrounded by national parks full of saguaro cactus, natural springs, and fantastic wildlife. Perfect for romantic hikes and lengthy discussions with your partner.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are constantly motivated by the couples that we meet with every day. Over the years, we have worked with hundreds of couples dedicated to building a loving relationship for themselves and their families. We see the dedications that couples have to stay together, to do the difficult work of looking inward and seeing how their suffering and areas of growth are the aspects of their life that can become the pathway to freedom to express love in a healthy and satisfying way.
