Meet Tara Dunning | Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Dunning and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted more flexibility. I also was tired of the 9-5 pay check to pay check lifestyle. My business was actually my passion that I did on the side, and after becoming a felon I felt the need to pursue entrepreneurship due to the possibly being rejected in corporate America.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is hairstyling. I feel like I’m different because I am self taught. I’ve never had a class on anything except from what I was taught in school. I’ve never worked in a salon or under anyone. I always had a large clientele since I was a kid. Before social media I was a word of mouth hairstylist. By the grace of God my clients continuously support my passion and allow me to perfect my craft with each visit. I’ve learned perseverance, dedication and effort goes a long way. In this industry you must remain humble but don’t allow others to play with your potential. I would like the work to know that I am a very passionate stylist who enjoys making others feel and look beautiful. Also given my mishaps anyone is able to overcome any obstacle throw their way. Don’t ever let society defy who you are continue to strive for greatness and you will achieve it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like fine dinning so I would probably suggest going to one of my favorite restaurants like Eddie Vs or Napa Prime to start. Then there’s a local bar where the drinks are stiff and cheap called Art’s. We have a few museums that have some really nice exhibits going on here like the. Van Gough experience. Top golf or our local amusement park Kennywood or sandcastle in the warmer months.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
