We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya M Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanya M, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work/life- balance has changed tremendously. As I understand time to be my most precious commodity, learning to allocate my time has been a consistent struggle. Knowing my “why” for starting my business and making the decision to put my desires for it into motion. This prompted me to ignite my passion, my grind, and showcase my exuberant personality; However, what I was not ready for was the balancing act. Learning to balance a full- time job, acquiring the knowledge of a business along with creating a business, curating content, launching my new online store (Tanya and Co.), making time for my personal life, and family has been a consistent struggle. I’ve had to sacrifice a tremendous amount of my time! Since starting my business, I placed other key areas of my life on the back burner. I allowed my full-time job and business to take a front seat in my life as I solely focused on walking in my purpose, building a legacy, and becoming successful; However, lack of sleep, poor food choices, and overloading on caffeine resulted in burnout and exhaustion. I now understand that the key is optimum balance along with sacrifice. I think about balance on a consistent basis. Finding a balance in my life is now a part of my daily routine. I prioritize and schedule time for myself, practicing self-care, self-love, prayer, meditation, and making health and wellness an intricate role in my life. I know that me being my best self will allow me to reach my highest pinnacle of success and live my best life. I now choose to balance with the intention of inspiring others, building a brand with integrity, and creating luxury products that my clientele will embrace and love. A personal vow I made to myself is not to neglect my prayer/meditation time or self-care moments. This is how I stay engaged and present in the moment to make the best decisions for myself, my business, and my future.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is the Mending Center, LLC. The Mending Center is a place where women who have the potential to be successful can be transformed, live a better life, and be tailored for success. What sets me apart from others is that I am an open book. I share my story in my book, “Reshuffle the Deck”. It is used as a tool for women who wants to alleviate emotional baggage, amplify their gifts, and appreciate the woman she is today. I am excited about where I am today. I am learning the importance of living in the moment, sharing my gifts, and expressing gratitude. Business-wise, I got where I am today by stepping out of faith, trusting God, and help from business connects, family, love-ones, family, and being intentional. I will never say it was easy. There were areas of opportunity along the way. After every failure, I learned to find out what was the lesson in it for me to learn from and I did my work. I continue to do my work today. The biggest lesson I have learned to date is the be genuine , know my worth, appreciate my value, and not to let fear keep me from going after my dreams. I want the world to know that I’ve learned it’s ok to forgive myself, forgive others, live in the moment, love myself, embrace peace, appreciate where I am and what I have, show love those in my life and give to others in need. I am a big dreamer and risk taker. One thing I know for sure is that I was put on this earth to achieve something GREAT! My Brand is m story, it’s a reflection of who I am, a Queen, a lover of luxury living, beautiful décor, elegant things, and self-love. I want everyone to know they have the power within them to reshuffle, realign, and redo whatever they need to do to achieve their goals and dreams.
