We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Newhouse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamika, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I had somewhat of an obsessive soul, always looking for the next best thing to get my name out there and I was consistent with it. Not many understand the importance of consistency because to start and stop is essentially not doing anything in my book.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From teen mom to CEO by 21, is the headline of my story but mainly I am just a visionary who always wanted the thoughts in her head to be her reality. I am obsessed with dreaming out loud and that has been my goal all of my life. Unfortunately, over the years I experienced trauma after trauma so I got caught up and created stories that would allow me to forget my pain. I’ve lost parents, been betrayed by my spouse, experienced horrible events in my quest to be a good mother, and ultimately had to find happiness in a world full of evil lol. It took creating my own love story with myself, purposely being single, and identifying the love languages that have allowed me to heal and ultimately become my best self.

Ultimately I encourage many to live out their dreams and through my platforms and events such as BlackWritersWeekend.com I have helped many conquer just that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Roc South to eat, whiskey mistress to dance, a stroll through downtown and to ride the Ferris wheel, cigars at any one of the social cigar lounges, and then some late-night much and drinks at Suite or Xperience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out myself to be honest because I have been the most loyal and most consistent one in my life and when I had nothing, I was the person who pulled me up.

I have to celebrate myself this time because often I have shared my spotlight, shared my resources, and funded my own dreams by myself, and when it was my time to receive help, it was only I that was there for me. So for the little girl in me and for the woman that I am becoming, I want to shout her out. You are strong, you are a Phoenix, and you will receive everything your heart desires. I am rooting for you, Mika. 🙂
