We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Charles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be where my children never have to struggle the way I did. I’ve always been the type of mother to teach my kids not to be another statistic like their mother, being a teenage mom and out of wedlock. I always teach my children to be better than I was when I was their age. I want all my kids to be successful and that to me is all I want my legacy to be knowing that they listened and did the right thing in life in order to conquer the world.

I want people to remember me by as a person that inspired them through my journey and never gave up on dreams and goals even though there was times I felt like giving up but God was always by my side leading me on to my destination. I want the world to know that just because I smiled in a thousand pictures that doesn’t mean I didn’t experienced the pain and hardships. What I didn’t do is give up on my dreams. I fought to the end. I gave it my all and I have no one to Thank but God. He heard all my prayers and answered all of my prayers. I’m a true believer that God do exist because without him I would not be the resilient woman that I am today. I want the world to know I came and conquer the world with every fiber of my beings. I am a Warrior and a conqueror Living.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business last year through the pandemic in June of 2020. I started it of with a friend from my hometown who had reached out to me wanting to go into the hair salon and Spa business with me. Unfortunately, after she had seen it was going to take more money to turn a pharmacy building into a salon and spa, she bailed out on me. I was devastated and hurt because she knew that was a dream that I wanted to fulfill and bring to fruition. I prayed about the whole situation and asked god to take control of the situation because giving up was not an option for me especially after investing money into it already but I knew my God would make a way and he surely did and with the help of my family. One lesson I learn was to always have your legal documents ready for both partners to sign before going into business together just in case a partner wants to pull out of the business deal so you know that you’re covered for legal purposes and not left stuck all by yourself but I had a vision and dreamed of opening my own salon and spa where I catered to my fellow domestic violence victims and survivors. I did just that. On June 25th, 2021, I opened Charged Up Salon And Spa. I have partnered up with other nonprofit organizations where I will be giving free services of their choice quarterly as my give back to the community. The individual/s will have to send an email explaining to why they feel that they deserve it, etc. As a domestic violence survivor, I want women to walk in and leave my salon and spa feeling Charged Up. Charged Up Salon And Spa is a one stop shop, where the barbers have their own waiting area and barbers room, women have their own waiting area and stylist station area. We also have a nail tech and provide other services such as facials, dermaplaning, body waxing, teeth whitening, body sculpting and lymphatic drainage massages and more. It took me exactly a year but I Thank for blessing me with the vision and making it all come to fruition. God is good all the time 🙏🏾

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m more like a homebody but since I have my friends visiting, I would take them to the Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola, CNN headquarters, The Sundial Restaurant, Pappadeaux, Old Lady Gang and hopefully I get to meet Kandi. We definitely would come to my salon, Charged Up Salon And Spa and get pampered before we go to Suite Lounge to dance the night away and eat some good food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out the love of my life, Derrick Norman. He’s been my backbone and has been so supportive of me throughout our journey together. I prayed to God to send me a man that can understand my journey, my struggles and can hold my hands and look at me in the eyes and tell me that I’m not going through this journey alone anymore and that he’s here to experience it with me. God knew exactly what I needed and he blessed me with the love of my life. My soul mate, the only person that I know that has my back and wants to see me win. I Thank God everyday for blessing me with my lifetime partner and I Thank you Derrick Norman for sticking by me and showing me that I’m worthy to be love. I love you my king ❤️
