We had the good fortune of connecting with Taj Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taj, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think of risk taking as something to get through to create a legacy. Taking risk and leaping out on faith is the reason why I’ve written my own movie. It has really put me in position to make my own way in the movie industry, and God is the one who has given me the strength to take these risk. If it wasn’t for my faith in him I wouldn’t have believed in myself to be able to be courageous enough to do what I was told couldn’t be done.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I believe I’m different from others because my intention behind me writing movies, and acting isn’t the same as your average movie writer or actor. My purpose is of writing is to not create something different, but to create opportunities for others who aren’t in position to be seen. There’s so much talent out here, but a lot of people just haven’t had the chance to be seen. I love serving people and that’s the number 1 thing I think about when writing a film. Me being a Actor isn’t so I can make it for myself. It’s my chance to tell my life story through the emotion I show on camera, and that allows others who might’ve been through something to look at me as an example then maybe want to use acting as a outlet as well. That’s what sets me apart and why I’m so passionate about my purpose. I’m so excited to be in the position to change someone else’s life. Every since I was a kid I always knew that I wanted to not only impact my loved ones, I wanted to impact this world. The fact that I can give someone a role and that role be the one thing that gives them an opportunity to have a bigger role really warms my heart and is why I’m so excited to be here.

Getting to this position was not easy at all.
I’ve been homeless, and just in that position where I’ve gone without for weeks, and what made it so hard is when your at the bottom of the bottom everyone is in your ear telling you why you should give up. Not only that you will be looked down on in that moment which made it hard to find purpose in what I wanted for myself. I’ve been told I wasn’t going to be nothing, I’ve been told that I would never make it, and did I believe those words ? Of course, but it’s those exact words that gave me the courage to prove the ones who said that to me wrong. I was determined to make everyone eat their words. That’s how I overcame every challenge that was thrown my way.
In that time I’ve learned so many lesson a long the way, but the number one lesson I’ve learned is no matter how successful you get there will always be challenges. Life doesn’t just get easier when you make it, so I’ve learned to always want more for myself and to always want to be able to give to others. That’s what allows me to overcome the challenges that comes with success.
I know I can’t impact everyone in the world, but if I can impact the ones I meet then I know that I’m living in my purpose. Acting and Writing gives me that chance to do that. Rather it’s a 6 year old kid seeing me acting on tv and he/she is inspired to want to be an actor, or a homeless person in the street and I can give them a job, I’ll be striving to make a difference in the world through the position I’m blessed to be in. That’s what legacy I’m creating and what mark I want to leave on this world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Showing friends a great time in the city would intel me taking them hiking up Stone Mountain, brunch at KOD on Sundays, Saturday nights at Tambou lounge a Haitian Restaurant, and of course Six Flags because I am big kid at heart. There’s also Arabia Mountain that’s really beautiful, so I would go there as well being that I love nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to Dedicate this to my Wife, My father, and my grandfather.
