We had the good fortune of connecting with Tahirah Sumbry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tahirah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had a prior legal infraction which impeded my ability to advance professionally and financially even with post-secondary education. So I was pretty much forced to create a opportunity of my own. Entrepreneurship in it’s self was very difficult being minority, female with little to no start-up capital in the LTL trucking industry. However, I took my faith, ambition, and the small amount of money that I had to get started. I am also the Founder of The Vanity Vegan which is a prestige organic cosmetic line.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
GLOBALUS, LLC is a B2G minority/woman owned small business – logistics and supply chain provider. GLOBALUS is a leader in providing cost-effective “Same Day and Next Day” delivery services. GLOBALUS specializes in transporting air-cargo LTL freight all over the United States. What makes us unique is we expedite time sensitive freight 24/7 rain, sleet, snow or holidays.

Throughout the Pandemic GLOBALUS has also become COVID-19 Delivery Solutions provider delivering PPE to various government entities; VA Hospitals, Military Bases and other Federal entities. GLOBALUS offers Emergency deliveries covering the U.S.

We have been in business for 9 years. It was very difficult in the beginning independently trying to secure contracts. When I decided to enter the trucking industry I found it complicated. It was a male dominant industry which wasn’t very welcoming to women. However, over the last 9 years things have changed, displaying more diversity and inclusion.

I would tell anyone interested in entrepreneurship to work smart not hard. I made a lot of mistakes by not knowing industry strategy and profit margins. It’s very important to not give up, be a change agent, and have the agility to pivot.

Throughout the pandemic I had a adverse experience with a well known cosmetic brand which prompted me to create and design my organic cosmetic with a spin of posh packaging. IG: Vanityveganesthetics

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– My favorite eatery is – Apres Diem – Tour – Atlanta Black History and Civil Rights Tour /Trilth Village in Fayetteville
– Shopping Experience – Buckhead Village District, Phipps and Sugar Loaf Pkwy
– I hang out in my city – Peachtree City which is zoned in 200 miles of golf cart trails. We don’t drive our cars, we travel by golf cart.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky as most who have been guided or lead through mentorship. I had very little support and encouragement along with a vast amount of naysayers. I have to give all praise and Thanks to the Most High. It has definitely been a bumpy journey however GOD stood by my side, when all of the odds were against me. Although, I do want to thank my son for his due diligence and commitment as a driver for Globalus.
