We had the good fortune of connecting with TaDarius Cosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TaDarius, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Chattanooga, TN about a hour and a half away from Atlanta depending on the traffic. My background is rooted in my city and my upbringing comes from my family and friends. I’ve learned so much from my family growing up I used to sit and listen to my family talk about stories of just experiencing life and forever cherishing memories. It was exciting to hear them talk about their stories and as I got older and started to experiencing life I fully understood why those moments my family cherish so much meant to them and started to create memories of my own with my friends and family as well. My friends are my second family they’ve seen me grow from where I first started my career to where I’m at today. They’re my motivation and always tell me to keep pursuing my dreams and to never give up even when there are setbacks. I’m so thankful to have my friends and family in my life and I’m thankful for the people in my city that believe in me. Chattanooga will always be apart of me wherever life takes me in my career my friends, family and city will be there with me as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a up and coming fashion designer. I got into fashion an style when I was younger and was heavily inspired by Pharrell Williams, Nigo, Kanye West, Rhuigi Villaseñor, A$AP Rocky and the late great Virgil Abloh may he rest in peace. Watching all these creative people influenced me to start my own clothing brand called VISIOŃE. What sets me apart from others is that I have my own unique way when it comes to designing. I take inspiration from artist of color with different cultural backgrounds. Certain aspects of my life are incorporated into the theme and design process of my brand. I’m proud of how much my brand has grown in the past few years. I am most proud of the recognition and support that I have received from my community. I was recently nominated for “Best Clothing Line” at the BEC Awards ( Black Excellence Chattanooga) I was giving the opportunity to be featured in the following magazines; VoyageATL, Otoko Magazine from Liverpool, London and Spunk Magazine from my local community. I’m excited to work on new projects, make new connections and for my brand audience to grow domestically and internationally. I got to where I am today by staying consistent. It was very difficult in the beginning, I was new to being a fashion designer and went through many trail and errors. I struggle with learning how to promote my business. With the support from my friends and mentors they help me realize how important it is to advertise and build your brand to gain a targeted audience. I used their advice and encouragement to think of better ways to gain a bigger targeted audience. I created flyers for my brand and posted them throughout my city and sent flyers to my friends that live in different states to do the same as well. I want the world to know that I am passionate about my work. I want people to enjoy and express themselves by incorporating VISIOŃE into their style.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came for a visit we would go downtown there’s a lot of artwork and sculptures on display. We would take photos and walk the bridge. We would go hang out at Coolidge Park downtown and get ice cream from “Clumpies” ice cream shop. Some of my favorite places to eat downtown would be “Six18” and “Shangril-La”. My best friend loves trying new restaurants so that is a must for him to try. During the night scene we would go to “Unknown Caller” for drinks. It’s a chill laid back bar with good vibes where you can really enjoy yourselves and listen to good music. The most interesting places to checkout would be “Ruby Falls” and the “Incline Railway”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my friends John Townsend, Justice Payne, Myles Maples, Joshua Etchison, Johnathan Royal and many others I didn’t get the chance to name.
