We had the good fortune of connecting with T Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi T, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well my thought process behind starting my own business was simple, being on my own time! I like to come and go as I please! I’ve always wondered how are families supposed to actually enjoy, care, bond etc l. spending 40plus hrs a week at work! It makes no sense to me. Growing up I didn’t know what that would like but I’m happy I’m rocking it out in this crazy world of entrepreneurship.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So we have Beau-T-Zone providing mobile beauty services and my non profit organization Mommies Melodies providing a safe space for mommies!
My businesses are filled with the love of women enjoying life and being true to their true selves! I think what sets me apart from others is my convenience and my focus.
With Beau-T-Zone I travel to my clients to provide braiding and lash services, I bring the shop experience to your home. So there’s never a choice between getting cute, finding a sitter or missing hrs from work.
With Mommies Melodies I think what sets me apart from other organizations like mine is the focus isn’t on being a mom the focus is the woman inside of mommy to ensure Mommy can be 100%. What I’m most proud of and excited about would definitely have to be my upcoming book release “The woman inside of mommy” and I also have a podcast Two Pretty Ts with my sister Tiera who also happens to be one of my favorite business partners , that just released this March.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Passion is how I got where I am today! Being a entrepreneur is a unpredictable world, but the passion fuels this jet! Passion is the how and why for me! Because when you’re running things on your own that passion is what keeps you going to work a little harder a little longer and the success of your business is much more personal! Easy? Of course not! To whom much is given much is required! But I overcame/ overcome any challenge by a lot of prayer for one and the two three and so on of that is hard work and focus! I’ve become more organized because it helps things flow a lot better! And then just finding what works what doesn’t and adjusting as needed along the way! Lessons I’ve learned 1. You need rest! 2. You cannot do everything alone. 3. Celebrate your wins small and big I want the world to know that it’s okay to live outside the box! But however you live, live your life for you and nobody else!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s see Dwarf House Chic Fil A and then go over to Kodak’s Kitchen and get some pasta. Apache for a good poetry night! Boogalou and House of Hookah are two my all time favorite spots! Botanical Gardens and The Selfie Museum for some good photo ops and probably hit up JeJu Sauna And Spa for some relaxation.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother my biggest cheerleader, May God rest her beautiful soul! Although she was all things Corporate World, she literally supported every single idea I had in regards to being a entrepreneur as long as it made sense! She would make me write up business plans, essays and yes even contracts whenever I needed her financial investments but the biggest piece for me were always her encouraging words, there was never a time she said “oh no you can’t do that” or “no maybe you should try something else” it was always “okay Tarana let’s see how we’re going to make this work”.
From a small age my parents taught us never chase the money chase the passion the money will come and that’s exactly what I do and I can honestly say they were right! She believed in the vision and made sure they came to life, even when I would get fed up and wanted to throw in the towel she would be right there to keep me going, these last 6 months she’s still been my biggest reason to keep going even though she isn’t physically here because now I have to finish what we started! And I can’t leave out my beautiful family, my husband Lamar and our 3 children! Lamar listens to me ramble daily, bounce ideas off him and deals with my crazy schedule. I love the way he’s been holding the fort down during this season of increase for my businesses! I wouldn’t be able to move how I move without him!
