We had the good fortune of connecting with Sway Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sway, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite quotes that I use both in my business and personal life is “Move with Intent.” I use this quote as a constant reminder to make everything I do be intention and ensure that it moves me closer to my overall goals. Whether personal or business, I believe it is essential to know what you are working towards. I question myself often “Are you moving with intent?” Asking myself this question tends to level things out and realign my path when I stray. Life is so beautiful and unpredictable that as you move towards your goals things will change, you will pick up new information, and new opportunities will be presented. But as long as you are moving intentionally towards your goals, successes count more, mistakes are just lessons, and you are always on the right path.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artworks combine color, shape, and figures (female mostly). In my works I believe I share connection and reflection with the community. I strive for my audience to not only enjoy the shapes and color patterns, but to also see themselves or even someone they know in the works and truely connect. I am most proud about the growth in the quality of my works over the years of creating different projects for clients. My growth makes me excited about the future of my work. I often get excited thinking about the things I will create with more focus, persistence, and time. Along the way I have learned to trust the process. As long as I am moving with intent towards my goals, the process is just the journey. Whether times are good or bad, I’ve learned to accept and know that they are only a part of the process that is leading me to what I desire.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the city of Atlanta. On any day I can fill my day with exploring something in the city. Some of my favorite places to are probably the belt line, Ponce City Market, The High Museum, any rooftop, and anything bougie.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My story has had so many people and moments that have heavily impacted the status of my business. With that said, I wouldn’t belittle any moment or person by highlighting only one. I honestly would like to shout out every single person who has given me encouraging words when I needed them, supported my business by either reposting or buying my artwork, anyone who has commissioned me for a mural or digital project, and definitely my family and friends for always always having my back. These small things are what keep entrepreneurs like me going and pushing to do what we love daily. Being an entrepreneur gets hard at times. It’s difficult to keep going when things aren’t working out either the way you thought they would or at the pace you anticipated. So any moment of support or encouragement, big or small, could be just the push you need to make it through and try again tomorrow.
