We had the good fortune of connecting with Susana Jaruczyk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susana, what’s your startup story? How did you start your business?
Being a stay at home homeschooling mom to 4 kids, I have always tried to do little side jobs & things to make extra money, Over the years I’ve had part time jobs, babysat, taught classes, cleaned houses, done random sewing projects and alterations for friends, you name it! About 3 years ago as our older kids got old enough to drive, we realized we needed an extra car, so I did what I know to do best and that was pray that God will provide a way to make extra money for a new car. A few weeks after that a friend called me and told me that I needed to call one of his friends that worked for an interior design company in Atlanta & was throwing away lots of fabric samples, and did I think could I use them? My first thought was, what the heck am I going to do with a bunch of tiny pieces of fabric? My second thought was, What have I got to lose? So after a phone conversations with a lovely lady, we had arrangements to have the samples dropped off at my house the next day. I had NO IDEA how many boxes of fabrics I was getting, it quite literally took up half of our 2 car garage!! The quality and prettiness of the fabrics I can never afford on our budged is unbelievable!! And the pieces weren’t as tiny as I thought!! But, what on earth I was going to make with them!? I had no idea!! So back to praying I went! And I had a very distinct sense of God saying you asked for money, I’m giving you these resources, and you have a brain! Use it all and make something out of it!! So after a few weeks and lots of pinteresting /googling / brainstorming I made a cute little bag with a bunch of different fabric pieces. I posted it on my Facebook page, as a “look what I made post” And someone asked if I could make one they could buy! So I was like suuure? And I sold it for $50 WHAT? Someone else asked for one and I was like People want to buy these?! That’s AMAZING!! So I made another one, and another one & that was the beginning of Mama Dinosews! And now just 3 years later I have made & sold over 500 bags! It’s been truly amazing to see what God can do if we just take the gifts & resources He provides and mix them with the skills You acquire with training and hard work

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make affordable one of a kind bags & purses from upcycled upholstery fabric samples and remnants. No 2 bags are ever alike. They’re all made with lots of love, and a lot of thought goes into making them unique & gorgeous! Is hard to be a stay at home mom, and still able to afford pretty, high quality, handmade things. I get it! And my goal is not just to make some money to provide for my family, but also to be able to help mommas & regular people with smaller budgets to own pretty one of a kind bags.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If a friend was coming to town I would invite them to my house! I love to cook, and host people in our house. We will likely eat, and sit and chat for hours, and then we may go to hiking in the woods, and sit at the creek and enjoy nature, unless the friend is a shopper and then we will hit up all the best thrift stores and probably end at a Hobby Lobby LOL And coffee, there will for sure be coffee!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I couldn’t do this without my husband and my amazing kids, their support and encouragement meant the world to me!! And Caffeine Also, my friend who still calls me when there’s discontinued fabric samples ready to leave their interior design company. I’m forever grateful for the way their business blessed the starting of mine! And Jesus for always having a plan that’s better than mine!
