We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer Lucille and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Summer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up plus size was not easy. And finding fly pieces for my fat body was a challenge. I wanted to create a space where fat girls can feel comfortable and find hot fashion. So I started Juicy Body Goddess. A plus size only boutique in Charlotte NC & online.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been in business since 2011. It was not easy. I sacrifice alot of friendships, mental & physical health. I didn’t pay myself for 6yrs. Everything went back to my business. No loans or hand outs. I used my own savings to build my dream. No banks would give me funding 10 yrs ago. That’s okay because I dont owe a soul today. I work hard for my dream. I wanted every plus size woman to know they are worthy to look good & be loved. And it took all of my savings to do so I was going to do it. I want the world to know it took blood, sweat & tears to build this dream. I’m am NOT an overnight success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them Northlake Mall. We would swing by Juicy Body Goddess store do some shopping. Then we may go to STATS restaurant for some food & drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout my mother Evelyn Lucille. She passed in 2011. She built this work ethics inside of me. I work everyday to make her proud.
