We had the good fortune of connecting with Sultana Sams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sultana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thoughts were that if I started writing, I could please other avid readers like myself with my stories that are fiction yet informational. All my stories have a meaning. Sometimes when we see something in writing, it feels real. I’m also an Accountant. I have been working in the Bookkeeping and Tax Services business for 20 years so I decided that I may as well work for myself rather than continue working for other firms.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m an Author and Certified Tax Preparer. I have 12 books published.
Love Sex and the Single Mom (parts 1-3)
Beaten By Love (parts 1-3)
F Your Family (parts 1 & 2)
Driving Me Crazy
My Man Is Her Man
An Empty Cradle
Black Girl in a Corporate World

It took dedication and hard work. It wasn’t easy finding time to write because it wasn’t guaranteed money at first and I still had to do taxes or notary signing jobs to make money. Now that my books have gotten out there, I have a great following and I can count on making money from them every single month. I dedicate tax season to my tax and professional business only because it gets very busy but once that’s over I’m writing and doing tax business, notary business and everything else.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Friends that come in town that’s not from here, I take them to River Street. The water views are beautiful and there are restaurants and shops down there they’ll love too.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to always shout out my children. Being a single mother who writes and runs a tax business, sometimes my time gets limited with them but they always understood and I always made it up to them after finishing a project.
