We had the good fortune of connecting with Stormy Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stormy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When looking at my passion and my career, starting a digital writing business made perfect sense. I love to write and more specifically, I love writing for digital spaces. Though I write daily for my ‘day job,’ those articles focus heavily on web hosting technology, web design, and other related topics. With my writing business, I have the opportunity to work on projects that are more creative and/or philanthropic.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Like most, getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Sure, I knew I loved to write but finding my niche and making money from it was another story. I went to school for journalism because I thought that was my only choice. Only to graduate and realize I didn’t want to work in a newsroom. Then I fell further into needless debt by pursuing a graduate degree in public relations to (you guessed it) not want to work in public relations. However, my crooked, winding path led me to my current job and business. Though it does not totally relate, my education has helped me grow as a technical writer and a digital marketing writer. I can switch easily between software trends and beauty pieces for freelance clients. Though I thought I cursed myself for a long time for my expensive professional exploration, all of the experiences and lessons I picked up along the way has helped me grow my career.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father. He gave me the courage to enjoy the ‘weird.’ It’s common in the Black community to force our tastes and joys into a box. Growing up in the 90s, a little black girl wasn’t suppose to like vampires, aliens, superheros, etc. However, he created a space where I could explore my interest without judgement. This fueled my creativity and my writing. Through creating new worlds, exciting adventures, and suspenseful stories, I found my passion for writing.
