We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Gustus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steve, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Life is all about taking risks if never take a risk you will never achieve your dreams. I took a risk of leaving a 9 to 5 job and pursuing Djing full time. I think that you can’t get anywhere in life without taking risks. If you are not willing to risk the unusual you will have to settle for the ordinary. I am very passionate about Djing Music is my entire life. So for me to take the risk of Djing full time I knew it would all come together. One of the greatest joys in life is doing what you Love. Living with fear stops us from taking risks. I have been blessed with many opportunities in my Dj Journey and if I did not choose to take a risk on these opportunities I would be stuck in the same position. I made the switch of being a Hip Hop Dj to being a open format Dj meaning that I can play all Genres of music, which has open up many doors for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Steve Gustus aka Dj Wiz Native to Snow Hill Maryland & Delmarva Peninsula area.I started Djing in 1978 and I have been apart of several Dj groups since the beginning of my career. What sets me apart from others is having a great personality and being open to network with others. How I got to where I am today is from my Hustle and Grinding and networking with like minded people. Trust me it was not a easy task. You will encounter all types of road blocks, but I just kept on pushing forward. The lessons that I have learned in this industry is being able to trust certain individuals. I built my brand up from the ground with no help, only me putting in the work and educating myself to be a better Dj.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live about 30 minutes from the beach resort area, so I would take my friend there. They have some of the best seafood restaurants at the resort area and that is where I would take my friend to eat. We could hang out on the boardwalk. For me being a Dj the most fun, and exciting thing would be to check out a concert with some of my Djs that I grew up admiring. Like Grandmaster Flash and several others.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Melvin Edmonds & Briana Edmonds of Edmonds Music Independent Record Label. Melvin Edmonds and his wife Briana Edmonds are the CEO’S of the Record label and they sign me as their official Dj. My entire life has changed since signing with the label and I am forever grateful to them.
