We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Kelleher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Music for me was my everything growing up and still is to this day. My earliest memories as a kid are dancing to music, playing my piano, learning chords on guitar, and practicing nonstop. No matter what I was going through, music was always there for me. I didn’t have a ton of friends in grade school, so I would write songs and use that as a form of communication. No one understood me the way my songs did. And nothing felt as good as writing out lyrics about whatever it was that I was feeling. That stayed with me growing up to this day, and music is still my best friend, my number one resource, and the thing that’s always a constant.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make indie-pop music inspired by Lennon Stella, Phoebe Bridgers, Holly Humberstone, and Harry Styles. I’ve always had a raspy voice growing up and it’s always the first thing I get asked about when meeting a new person. I studied music since the age of 6 and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2019 with a degree in Songwriting. After graduation, I moved to Nashville, where I’m currently based, and I’ve been here ever since! I got to where I am today with a lot of perseverance and a lot of support from my family and friends. It has not been easy and it’s still not, but it’s all about just taking one day at a time and one step at a time. Songwriting has been a form of therapy for me throughout my life and being able to express myself through lyrics and chords has never not gotten me through a tough time. I’ve learned that it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and to not compare myself to others (which I still have to regularly remind myself!), because we’re all on our own paths. When people hear my music, I want them to think of me as a friend and someone who understands. We’re all only human and it’s so important to be kind to one another, and I want them to hear my music as a voice who gets it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to The Twelve Thirty Club on Broadway – I play there every Sunday and it’s always a great time, especially in the Supper Club! There’s live music and the food + drinks are incredible. I’d also take them on a drive out to the Edwin Warner Dog Park – I’ve got a sweet pit bull pup that I rescued back in 2020 and she loves to go run around with all the other dogs. It’s such a beautiful drive too! Going to a show at The Basement East is always a fun time and I love supporting other local artists and I’d probably end the night at Lakeside Lounge over a couple of beers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All of the music teachers in my life that stood by me through the thick and thin, the ups and downs, the many many no’s, and all the highs and lows in my personal life. My music teachers are still some of my best friends and closest confidantes and I could not be where I am today without them.
