Meet Stacey Grant: Director of Student Life & Our Girls Rock Too!

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When starting OGR2, I knew there was a need for mentoring in the community for young girls and I wanted to be of service but I was afraid to step out into something so new and without financial support. God kept speaking to me about it until one day I gave in and said ok Lord if it’s your will. It amazes me at the financial and community support that the organization has received during this entire journey.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up in a rural area, I did not have positive programs exclusively for young ladies to attend. However, I was surrounded by a positive, loving community which lead me to be the strong lady that I am today. Being surrounded in this environment has had a significant impact on my character development. I was always told that I was beautiful, smart, and could accomplish anything. I believe that with the support of a positive community and strong esteem developing programs, we can embrace the young ladies of our community.
Although my life as a young girl was very well-supported, I did face some obstacles such as being bullied. I found myself being bullied for my clothes and even for being smart. As a result, I became in need of the encouragement that my community would one day provide. My goal has always been to be a guide and a mentor for the young ladies in the program and community and to create an environment of love and lifelong friendships. I know that I may not reach every girl, but to reach even ONE can be life changing. I want to help open doors for young ladies to discover their talents, accept their beauty, excel in education, and value the importance of embracing and uplifting each other to reach the common goal of SUCCESS!
I’ve found that my vision has evolved over the past years with the growth of the organization and needs of the community. I am so proud and thankful for the community support, my volunteer staff and all of the resources we have been able to offer over the past 9 years. I hope that in the near future we can can extend services to our collegiate women. I am excited to where God and the future may take us.
We educate women because it is smart. We educate women because it changes the world. – Drew Faust
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my girls came to visit we would hit up Savannah…
Plant Riverside District would be the first stop. This is new on Riverstreet and I would love to try some food on the new J.W.
The Olde Pink House and Joe’s Crab Shack
Then maybe hit up Pooler for the IFlY Indoor Skydiving. (I am super geeked about this and I’m afraid of heights lmbo.)
Then to Hilton Head Beach to catch some sand in those toes! : )
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This process has been a blessing and rewarding. God has always provided. A special shoutout to my mom Rosaland King and sister Ros Roberson who encouraged me to start OGR2 and has been rocking with me from day one. Lisa Campbell who gave me structure on how to start the organization, Veronica Cheers who helps to run the day to day functions and the community sponsors. My staff share the same vision as myself and they support the movement. Their dedication is impeccable. The organization can not run without them.
