We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonjia Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonjia, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
You know to keep going because you go through the stress and burnout. You want to give up but you think about how far you have come. Another thing is alot of people want me to fail but I keep going because doubt is what motivates me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am LPN, medical assistant, CNA and a medicine nurse. I obtained my Bachelor’s in science(psychology) from Troy University. I obtained my MBA from Strayer from Strayer University. As you can see my profession involves helping the community. I try to help anybody that I can. I’m a very powerful woman and a jack of all trades.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I could take my friend anywhere it would be a week long vacation to Turks and Caicos. That’s a beautiful place and the water is perfect. We would go jet skiing and then enjoy the night life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I would like to thank God because without God I wouldn’t have made it this far. I would like to thank my amazing husband because he have been riding with me for 15 years. I would like to thank my children for supporting the vision. I would like to thank my from Africa Jabulile Mahlaba. She is so encouraging and supportive. I would like to thank my friend Ann Baker. We met in a fashion show in Miami and locked in with each other. She is so encouraging. Last the book A Purpse Driven Life. I am here for a purpose.
