Hi Solace, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m Solace Taylor (@thepoetsolacetaylor) , multimedia artist and owner/designer of FEED THE POET apparel. FEED THE POET is an independent streetwear brand using ART to promote social/racial awareness and self-love. FEED THE POET is a self affirmation to fuel your life force through creativity/art. Treat yourself like royalty and nourish your soul. I’m a former Division-1 College Football player. I’m a Natural born athlete and scholar. Full ride offers to every d-1 college for football, some for track, smaller schools for basketball. I also received Full-ride academic scholarships from literally EVERY Ivy League school however, my folks engrained in me at an early age NEVER be a TOKEN so I turned them down and turned those letters into ART(a collage). I accepted a scholarship from and played for Nebraska on defense as a true freshman in ‘99. (We were ranked number 1 in the nation at the time). I Hurt my neck and was forced to stop playin football. I went on Medical redshirt, graduated, started grad school for special education but was unfulfilled. After a loss of my my NFL dreams panic would strike in the middle of the night like a midlife crisis at age 22. Finally one night I wrote some of my questions I had for God down and was able to sleep. I found Solace in my pen and have not put it down since. Poetry was my new playing field and art is my new sport. I use clothes as a platform for self love, peace, and freedom by way of creativity. I build beats, write everyday, design clothes, have published a book of poetry and multiple musical projects. My projects are rooted in my culture and dedicated to cultivating creativity for the masses. I’m currently working on 3 musical albums, a manuscript, a mixed-media art installation, and next season’s clothing line. Art is almost equally as vital to my life force as food itself. I need nourishment from both to function. I believe in my soul if more people looked at life through art , it would create a greater appreciation of our time on Earth which in turn, would lead to a more peaceful existence for all.
